Paula, I don't know why someone said that, I was there 4 days ago, the pool is great, service is wonderful (they have wonderful padded lounges and cabanas by the pool that they will cover with terrycloth and towels, they bring out cold washcloths, have lots of floats and tubes, and come around with complimentary sorbet and italian ices). The staff and service is very good.
It's one of the prettiest pools and resorts in SoBe and I think worth the price.
It's also in a great location. Near Lincoln Road Mall, on the beach, close to Ocean Drive and Espanola Way.
And to those who don't go to resorts and who claim they "travel" well, I do both. Sometimes we like to move around and do a cultural and active vacation. Other times, my husband is so exhausted from his job and travelling on business, that sitting on his considerably in shape butt is all he wants and needs to do. Maybe those that don't understand this don't work hard enough to understand the desire to just do nothing and be waited on in warmth and beautiful surroundings.

Jen..I agree..Cozumel! I couldn't wait to go after hearing wonderful comments. Don't get me wrong..the people are as nice as can be, but the hotels/resorts were not at all like I visioned. Could be I was too eager and conjured up images in my mind how wonderful it all was.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a resort area....but Asheville NC is so overrated and down right boring IMO.
Nina - If you were hanging out at the pool 4 days ago on South Beach, then you must be from Alaska. We've had a very cold January and this past weekend was the coldest so far this season. The highs on Saturday were only in the mid 50's and on Sunday the mid 60's. I surely don't consider this to be beach weather!! Brrrrrrr.

Hotel Moscow in Moscow, of course. do not know how to explain it, but for 450 $ in single occupancy, you got only a small bed in a tiny room, everything worn and oldfashion, service unexistent, prostitutes all aver the hotel, electrical wires at a glance, 55 minutes for checking in/out, and a feeling of a sad and grey past ... and present. Hopefully my company was paying ! Never ever ever !

Cancun, or as my wife and I refer to as "Mexico Light." While the beach is great, the culture is overwhelmingly American based on the proliferation of Rainforest Cafes, Pat O'Brien's, etc. I'm not even sure the Mexican's who live there speak Spanish.
If we go to that part of Mexico again, we'd definately opt for one of the smaller resorts further South, near Tulum.

I don't work and never have and I still love lazy resort vacations as well as active travel. Anytime I can get a change of scenery I'm all for it!!!
Two most overrated Bacarra, Santa Barbara, and the new Trump hotel in Sunny Isles (North Miami Beach).
I'm tagging along with the hubby on a trip to Nashville next week staying at the Opryland Hotel. I have a feeling I'll be back to this thread to add that one to my list!

Another vote for Cancun. Wayyyyyyy over rated. Ugh! Just a bunch of locals trying to come between drunks and their wallet. Looks like many of them have been successful.
A trip to Acumel (not Cozumel) was incredible though. Beautiful white sand beach with clear clear water and lots of fish. Could walk to the barrier for snorkeling.

Marriott Palm Desert was extremely overrated- we had huge huge huge cochroaches (notice the plural) in our room. The spa was outrageously expensive even compared to big city standards and the restaurants were mediocre at best.

VEGAS, baby! Maybe it was good when it was Mob-Vegas, but Corporate-Vegas was boring as hell!
Now, I have some questions about other people's responses: most specifically, can you give us more details on what's wrong with the Four Seasons Maui? It looks so nice. Do people's kids run wild without any limits or discipline?
Also, for those of you who say you travel well but avoid resorts, where do you stay? Rental homes? Bed and breakfasts? Youth hostels? Tell us what we're missing! Thanks

I third (or I think it was fourth) for Cancun. It was one of the worst vacations my DH and I ever went on. The weather stunk and, after spending some time in Acapulco, we were disappointed at the decidedly un-Mexican atmosphere--and their apparent dislike of Americans.
