The Mirage

Thinking of going to Vegas in the summer. How is the Mirage. We like a nice big room, good food, and a nice pool. Are there alot of kids.

The Mirage is not bad. Some kids - but not as many as some of the other places. Caesers is nice - Bellagio is fabulous. The ones that have a ton of kids are: Excaliber, NY/NY, Treasure Island, Aladdin, Circus Circus. Another place that looked nice was Paris (I haven't stayed there, but they have a great spa), but I'm not sure what the pool is like. Check www.lvol.com for alot of reviews on Las Vegas places...

Linda;
Based on your requirements,I would choose Mandalay Bay instead.

Pro:
*Large rms, nice bathrms
*Excellent pool area - has a wave-making machine for simulated waves
*Excellent spa which includes a gym, whirlpools, saunas, etc. Can get treatments like facials, massages, etc.
*World-class restaurants & lounges within the hotel:Aureole,China grill,Border Grill, red square, RumJungle, House of Blues - just to name a FEW
*Free tram to Luxor & Excaliber
*younger (20's-30's), hipper crowd -less kids
Cons: First hotel on the strip - meaning that it is NOT quite central to the rest of the Strip casinos
Just back from Vegas last month after staying at the Mirage. Centrally located. Our room (standard) is nice and with a strip view and looking down the volcano. Although many visitors like the Mirage buffet, I prefer other hotels (Bellegio is excellent for both lunch and dinner). Considering the price ($79/night), the Mirage is good.

If price is not your concern, I suggest staying at Bellegio, with good restaurants, big rooms.

Just a word of caution about Mandalay Bay - there are tons of kids at the pool area. I must agree, though, that it is a very nice hotel. If it is your first time in Las Vegas, though, I would recommend the Mirage,Caesar's Palace, the Venetian, or Bellagio). They are centrally located, whereas the Mandalay Bay is at the far end of the strip.
