the lodge at sonoma report

Just got back from a stay at the Lodge at Sonoma. It was wonderful! We were complimentarily upgraded to a cottage and had a nice king size bed with fireplace and ample bathroom area. We were traveling with our five- and one-year-old sons for a wedding and the sofabed was made into a bed for him and we had plenty of room for the portacrib as well. We had cottage 3B which was seriously the best room for us in the whole place. Quiet and extremely private and yet right by the pool entrance and close to the main lodge where the wedding reception was. The pool was fantastic and the service was excellent...didn't eat at the restaurant (Carneros) but the Lodge catered the wedding and the food was very good for a large sit-down dinner like that (180 people). Location good--a quick drive to the Plaza in Sonoma with fabulous restaurants and shopping. The Basque Cafe is a great casual place for delicious pastries and coffee in the a.m. They have a spa there too but with the kids and the wedding festivities didn't have a chance to luxuriate. Maybe next time. At any rate, a great place for couples vacationing as well as families traveling together.

Yo!

How did you book it and what was the rate...if you don't mind me snoopin'?

We stopped by there the end of May and hit the bottle shop located right there on premises to p/u a few bottles of Richardson Pinot and Mayo Zins.

Decided to eat dinner at Carneros Bistro. It was very good. Good wine list too.

I thought I heard it may be one of the Priceline hotels for the Sonoma area???

It's just the right distance from the D'town Square for a nice romantic walk "home", yah? ;)

We booked a standard king size bed room in the lodge with a pool view for $289 a night and got the free upgrade. I don't know what the cottage would have run for the same nights (summer weekend)... I booked directly through the hotel, I couldn't find a better rate elsewhere. The Lodge is the only high star hotel in the area for Priceline, and knowing that we did try to book our room that way, but upwards of $150 a night bids got us nowhere. I think it needs to be offseason--we found out they were at 100% capacity the weekend we were there so I don't think they are selling anything via Priceline at full occupancy!

It would be a pretty lengthy walk home from the Plaza, I would recommend driving or getting a cab if dressed nicely or with small kids. As cute as the Plaza and the Lodge are, the walk inbetween isn't anything special.

Happy to answer more questions!

Can you tell me if you originally had booked the quality room without the fireplace? Or if you happened to view it while at the Lodge? I am trying to get an opinion on that room type. Thanks!

Yeah, we originally booked the standard room and were complimentarily upgraded at checkin, so we never saw the "standard" room. Sorry!
