Hamura Saimin's is closed the whole week we are here..
Hi ksucat! How sad - that is my favorite place on the Island.
Ah, the travails of being in paradise!
Life is tuff.

iamq Sep 20th, 2009 10:22 AM

This thread is getting me all worked up for our trip in July to a lovely (non a/c) house in Hanalei!

ksucat Sep 20th, 2009 12:15 PM

nanabee..wife and I teared up and couldn't believe what we were reading in the window.
Hamura's is one of the best..she was going to have her lilokoi pie first and then the saimin..just like iceeu2!

Bill..a house in Hanalei without a/c is all good by me bro.
what a lovely place and the vortex energy around there is intense and wonderful positive energy.

Went to St. Regis resort but the guard wouldn't let us in..no way is that going to open Sept. 26th..

Neo..Yikes!
That road is freaky deaky scary and 2 days ago, a huge semi came barreling down and the road is smaller than a 2 lane country road and can't imagine you had no brakes!
All the best to you Neo and lots of Aloha!

Mary2Go Sep 20th, 2009 01:14 PM

Neo,

Glad to hear your sense of humor in intact! Glad your brakes got you back to the car rental place without incident. Our worst car rental was in Kauai when we got a roach infested car, ughhhh. We had a gecko in one car but I figured that was okay unless it ran up my leg while driving!

iamq Sep 20th, 2009 02:44 PM

ksucat...the vortices really swirl and bop at Limahuli Gardens just below Makana Peak. Powerful place.

china_cat Sep 20th, 2009 06:34 PM

ksucat, I'm in Kauai, must be the same dates as you. We tried to go to Hamura when we got off the plane Monday and it was closed!

I did indeed notice members of the Kauai private driving club when waiting for traffic in Princeville, where the tree-trimming is going on. Always in jacked up pickup trucks, just as Patrick said.

we're loving our stay on Hanalei beach. But damn...there are chickens here. Why didn't anyone tell me about all the chickens in this hellhole?? ;)

iamq Sep 20th, 2009 07:15 PM

China_cat, how's the house working out?

ksucat Sep 20th, 2009 08:58 PM

I wonder if the jacked up trucks that have the special priviledges are the subs that are working on the St. Regis resort?
I saw a lot of them going in and out of Princeville..
They have a deadline for the 26th.

bill..kick myself for not going in there..looked gorgeous.

China..looks like we had the same dates..I am home now as of early this morning.

china_cat Sep 21st, 2009 02:14 PM

The house was great. Well it had a few drawbacks, but definitely more pluses than minuses. I'll post more details later. Now I'm sitting in the lihue airport waiting for our flight to hnl, for the final week of our monthlong Hawaii trip.

showoff!!
:))

NeoPatrick Sep 21st, 2009 05:32 PM

china cat -- not to make you feel bad (ha) but I had lunch today at Hamura Saimin. Unfortunately because it was their first day open after the week's vacation -- there was no lilikoi pie.
And last night I went back to Hukilau Lanai and just had one of those ginger martinis and some Ahi Nachos on crispy wonton wrappers for dinner sitting in the lounge.

iamq Sep 21st, 2009 06:22 PM

NO LILIKOI PIE!?! Go Back! Quick!

NeoPatrick Sep 21st, 2009 06:35 PM

They won't have any till tomorrow -- after my plane departs for BI. I sat next to a fun local gal who runs a cleaning service and has lunch there while sheets are drying at the nearby laundromat. I thought she'd have a coronary when they said there was no pie. She looked like she's eaten a lot of it.

The boiled eggs in the Saimin were very strange, they'd peel apart in thin layers. This gal asked why there were like that, and they said the eggs in the refrigerator froze while they were on vacation. Kind of weird.

iamq Sep 21st, 2009 07:01 PM

I can't believe they had the nerve to go on vacation!

Only 291 more days to go! 8-}

china_cat Sep 22nd, 2009 11:35 PM

Weren't those Ginger martinis wonderful?

Well, when I have a bit more time I'll come back to make you jealous with descriptions of the 9 course tasting menu at la mer. Ohmygosh...that was one amazing dinner.

PamSF Sep 23rd, 2009 06:38 AM

Limahuli~you gotta go!

Kal Sep 23rd, 2009 06:50 AM

HawaiiVirgin Sep 23rd, 2009 07:10 PM
