The Homestead vs. Keswick

For a three night stay in September. We'd like to golf, hike, eat and generally relax.

I've been hard pressed so far to pick between them, so I'm leaning toward Keswick because it's less expensive and a shorter drive for us.

Is Homestead worth the extra money and time?

I've never been to Keswick, but I've been going to Hot Springs since a I was little. My family has a place there, but I've stayed in the hotel a few times (but it's been over 10 years). We just went up last summer. The Homestead offers lots of activities or you can just relax. There are 3 golf courses, hiking (particularly the Cascades Gorge, which is such a pretty hike), mountain biking, horseback riding, fly fishing, a spa, the warm springs (which are so relaxing; it's about 5-10 minutes away from the hotel, but I think there's a shuttle), tea in the afternoon, skeet shooting, etc.

There's a main dining room for dinner, which is old-fashioned in a good way. There's a live band. There's the Grill, which is also on the fancier side. There's Sam Snead's Tavern downtown, which is good and casual. Outside the hotel, I love Gristmill Square and Fort Lewis Lodge (which is a 30 minute pretty drive). There's also Elliott's downtown.

I personally love Hot Springs and the Homestead, but you'll have to figure out if it's worth the extra time and money. I don't know anything about Keswick so I can't compare them.

Hope this helps.

I haven't been to the Homestead recently, but we had a wonderful time a few years ago. Did you notice Homestead has a movie theatre and bowling? Honestly, although my husband and I don't bowl, wouldn't normally think to bowl, we had great fun bowling. My husband is sitting next to me right now, and he says the carriage ride was the first thing he thought of when I told him I was writing about Homestead. We played tennis, had massages, went swimming, and took some walks. The meals were very good and it's a lovely place, indoors and out. There was a pianist playing in the dining room every night. Of course, I've never been to Keswick so I can't make a comparison.

I've been to both and I'm not interested in a return trip to either. Go to Clifton Inn. I'm sure they would arrange golf for you but there's no place like a great R&C property. These people do not miss out on anything. Good luck to you..........

My favorite hotel is an R&C property in Ireland, so thanks for the suggestion of Clifton Inn.

Still leaning toward the resorts because I like the idea of having everything right there at your doorstep.

Any opinions of Keswick?
