The High Line keeps getting better and better!

We made a return trip to the High Line today, taking some friends from Italy to experience one of our favorite activities in the city. We hadn't been there in a year or two and were delighted and pleased to see that it keeps getting better and better! And, interestingly, the site continues to draw an equal number of locals and tourists. (And there were a lot of both today!) We cannot recommend a walk along the High Line too strongly.

Howard, thanks for this information. I keep hearing about "The High Line" but didn't really know what it was. I looked it up and it sounds like a gem...so glad it was preserved and turned into this space. My family is headed to NYC in early December. We have children ages almost 6, 8, 10. From what I have read at the website I think we would enjoy this if we can fit it into our itinerary and if it isn't terribly cold. (Maybe they will even have some sort of holiday event planned.) Do you agree, or are they too young to appreciate?

sanibella, our Italian friends have two children, ages 12 and 7 and they seemed to enjoy the High Line quite a bit. So, I'd say that it should be on the must-see list for your entire family. Just dress warmly in December!
The High Line really something very special. It's hard to describe one's personal feelings about the experience. My most-often quoted comment about it is something like this: It gives you a whole different view of New York from 30 feet above the sidewalk.

Great! We will add it to our list then. I am so glad to have something entirely new for all of us to do.

We've been before in Dec--we are already bracing for the weather. ;) We will go there the same day we do TOTR and wear our heaviest layers and coats so everyone is comfortable.

Thanks so much for the tip.

Great to hear! Kind of the way the Rose Kennedy Greenway has progressed in just a few short years. It gives one hope.

Thanks! Looking forward to doing it again next week. I was just looking at last year's pics - walking it in the rain. Hoping for sunshine this time :-)
