One thing fer sure in Hawaii, at breakfast, if the surfs up, the busboy may be manning the kitchen while the linecook is riding a wave.
KK wins on the pancakes! Need my coconut syrup on top, too.
Absolutely gotta have the coconut syrup!
So, Songdoc, you been anywhere else yet to do your pancake research? ((r)) |
Al and Don's had some good pancakes too. The Royal Hawaiian.
Bananas, pineapples, papayas and MacNuts. Coconut syrrrrrrup. =P~ "The Bobby" was the Chief Cook and Bottle washer there for years. Sad that place is closed now. Nice ocean view, right on the beach. They filmed part of "Tropic Thuder" inside the restaurant. |
Tall Tales from The Blue Book Bible from Hell
Seems pretty Andy got rid of his cowriter/partner, or did she simply run for the hills? I've never found the answer to the question of her demise of being left of of future editions of the book she helped write. Now he is selling the building and land (or land rights - real estate in hell is very confusing) under his sister and bro inlaw partners of Scotty's BBQ Little Andy sure has a way of attracting trouble in paradise. |
I apologize. I've let you all down in my quest. On my last day in paradise (Halloween) I returned to Kountry Kitchen. For my $$$ .... it's unbeatable. That breakfast was the best meal of my trip. (with Hamura's saimin running a close 2nd)
You gotta go with what you love!!!((r))
Lookin Glass, I also wondered what happened to his partner Harriet.
From what I read, Scotty's is still open and looking to move to a new location. |
Scotty's is way over rated, just like those damn books.
Does Scotty's still run out of BBQ about 2-3 hrs after opening? Happened to us 2-3 diff times. WTH???
LOL. Only Songdoc can get it going with a debate about pancakes - and I immediately thought that the most important thing for good Hawaiian pancakes is the Coconut syrup - which several others mentioned.
Used to have a favorite place years ago - a couple blocks off the beach in Waikiki - but think they are gone now. First time had Coconut syrup - and now buy a bottle to take home every trip. Hey - the North Shore (Bali Hai) of Kauai is No Ka Oi- and you only leave it to explore some more of the beautiful Garden Isle - but always return. :) see: http://tinyurl.com/ce4myj5 |
Kal, I never got Scotty's. You really like them? We went to the buffet one Sunday and I thought and it was pretty average. Consider the source though, this is coming from someone who is not crazy about your Holy Grail, The Oly (Grail)Cafe. You do have good taste buds though. Anyone who likes the Tipsy Pig is okay in my book.
WW, you should have gone down the street to the Ono Family Restaurant. Scotty's is for bbq...NOT breakfast!!! We have eaten at Scotty's a couple of times and liked it ok. Great view!((r))
Also Sondoc: Thanks for the great tip on what kind of Buttermilk to use in the pancakes. Have to try that.
"Use the higher fat content, sometimes referred to as Bulgarian Style Buttermilk. " |
iceu2, It wasn't breakfast! It was their "buffet". Ribs, chicken, etc, etc....The only place for breakfast on that wretched place is the Hanalei Wake-Up and Village Snack Shop, but those are up in Hanalei and you Kapaa lovers never get that far. :)
Oopsie daizy!!!! Didn't even know they had a buffet!!! I think we have only had a sandwich there..((r))...
iceu2, Where are you going to have your _ _th birthday dinner? ((D))
hmmm, I had my _ _th at The Beach House. Where do you suggest for the _ _th? Needs to be somewhere that I can just roll home unless you are coming to be the DD!!((r)):-d
How about Hukilau Lanai? You could roll like a ball home from there.
If the real icee doesn't drink too much, how about driving up to the Tavern on the Princeville golf course. Great sunset views and their food is exceptional. |
