The Gates in Central Park

I know there had been a previous post about Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Gates in Central Park, but I can't seem to locate it.

Besides walking through The Gates, I'd love to view them from above. Has anyone heard of good spots to do this? Any suggestions for an especially, scenic section of the park to visit?

There is some information here: http://christojeanneclaude.net/tg.html and here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/thegates/home.html

I believe that the Met plans on opening the roof garden (weather permitting) to allow people to view The Gates, that will cover 23 miles of walkways and footpaths from 59th street to 110th street, from above. The museum is also hosting a special exhibition of 51 preparatory drawings and collages by Christo, 64 photographs, and 11 maps and technical diagrams.

Does anyone know if any of the gates are up yet? I mean, they can't put the whole thing up in one day (can they?) so some of it must be up before the actual "opening day" of Feb 12th. They say they are going to "unfurl" them that day. What, if anything is in place at this time?

I was planning to be in the city next weekend but I would like to see the gates so I'm considering putting it off one week. On the other hand, if some of it is up already I might just go as planned. Any into from those of you who are in NY would be appreciated. Thanks

The longer Gates post is closed.

Sooo.... after all this broo-ha-ha is over, will the fabric be dry-cleaned and sent to the poor of the 3rd world countries?

Everything will be recycled. How and where it will be used, I do not know.
