My flight was delayed 3 hours....how frustrating as I had to split my time between chinatown and the ferry building for my last day! Shanghainese, you will appreciate this: my suitcase was 7 pounds over. I spent some time on the curb at United shuffling items in & out of my second checked bag for a second weigh in. I am pretty sure it was still slightly overweight, but the sky caps sighed, shrugged, and nodded me through. Smart men! They must have wives who put them through the same pain, as all 3 men's faces had the same look of resignation.
More posts & photos to follow this week...a little delayed as I did not get home till midnight last night.

Oh Mels, I can envisage you with 2 open bags at the curb shuffling items in & out, you were lucky with the sky caps. It happened to our family with 6 suitcases leaving Guilin (after Shanghai), DD and I tried to shuffle items into DH's bags and still got fined. After another 3 days in HK with more shopping, they just waved us through at the HK airport.
Don't worry about posts and pix, we can wait, you must be exhausted. I got so many compliments at the bbq yesterday about my new moonstone earrings, I wore them with a long sleeve white with blue flowers HI t-shirt.
withkids: Something for you to keep in mind, internal flights in China only allow 1 (one) check-in bag for free!

I rushed the photos up, so the captions are still very raw (if there are captions at all):

Here is my part deux, I hope I didn't leave anything out:
Shanghainese managed to cut out of work early on Friday, so I told her I was going to Noe Valley. Ah, a discovery! Off we went. BART to the 24th street station; when you get out, turn left and walk UP the hill for about six blocks.
www.noevalley.com
Noe Valley has a variety of stuff--a cheese company, many clothing & shoe boutiques, some jewelry. We peeked into Nisa, the 24th St. Cheese Company, See Jane Run, Ambiance, Cotton Basics. (Shanghainese, did I miss any?) We bought some items at Wink, a cute novelty store, but sadly they did not have the Tiki Time toy that I had come for. We also stopped in at Qoio, an upscale jewelry store. In the back, we discovered a courtyard with stairs going straight up--they have asian-inspired stone and wood items for sale as well, creating a bit of an oasis amidst the .... errr....hustle & bustle?.....of Noe Valley. Oh, who am I kidding? This was an oasis amidst an oasis!
We were going to stop in at Hamano Sushi for a snack, but they are open from 11-2 for lunch and from 5:00 for dinner. No sushi snack for us!
We finished up FOUR HOURS of shopping at Rose Quartz, a charming little earring store. I love that they have mainstream styles as well as originals! Before getting on the BART to go back to town, we stopped in at Belgano, a new gelateria. (It took the place of the old Stonehouse Olive Oil store.) Triple espresso and vanilla for me, Pistachio and vanilla for Shanghainese. A perfect, refreshing ending to a perfect shopping day.

Mels: The pix are great, I'm reliving the GTG thru your lens.
Also enjoy seeing all the other activities you did. I am embarrassed to say after more than 20 years in the area, it took a HI Fodorite to show me around in Noe Valley!
It was sheer bliss shoppiing with Mels and it once again proves just like traveling partners, shopping pals have to be compatible -- same interests (we bought the same hostess gifts), similar pace (I'm no marathon runner so Mels really slowed down for me), stop for food (that's fuel, the tahitian vanilla gelato was yummee) and superb etiquette (we were cordial to shop keepers, and gave each other honest comments before purchasing certain personal items). Thanks a bunch for including me. Aloha!

A great gtg, but an even better vacation! Mels it looks like you took California by storm!
Shang and Mels! Wowser!! You did have a big day-after, didn't you?! It looks like Shang is watering the gardens up on the hill.
The food in the other pics, following the gtg look great too. Wow! And the dessert that is stacked! What about the flower market? Can anyone go there? I will if you tell me how! Email me, I'll email you, this very same request! Wow!
Good job girls!

Valerie, I will definitely email you soon! I need to compile all the information at home this week, including the flower market stuff. I have the tour days/times & contact written down somewhere....that's a flower market to the stars! They shop at about 2 a.m. and like it because everyone treats them like normal people.

Just came back from Vegas, don't worry, it's still there even after our visit Report will be posted... eventually...
The important thing is, I finished the film and will take it to develop ASAP.
Thank you, Melissa, for posting the pictures! It was fun, and we should keep up the tradition.
