The Clifton Inn, Charlottesville VA
Has anyone stayed here? We're thinking of spending a night while visiting Thomas Jeffereson's Monticello. Any recommendations for rooms .... or other activities/dining while in Charlottesville?

We stayed one night there back in January. It is a beautiful inn and the grounds looked amazing. We were just passing through so we did not have time to do much exploring.

The Clifton is lovely, but more of a larger country inn. Try one of the B&Bs - there are several of us near Monticello.

oh my, erika was trying to promote herself - and blew the website. does that count as a goof or a double-plug??
While I've not stayed at Clifton Inn yet, I've heard very nice comments from several friends who love it there. And a restaurant we love is Palladio's at Barboursville vineyards - may be too far for you (it's in a tiny spot called, well, Barboursville - google maps calls it 33 minutes from Charlottesville center-of-town) - you feel like you're in Italy somewhere, food is fabulous, service delightful, the place is TINY, and it amazed us the first time: we've been snobs about preferring NOT to drink our Virginia wines. Well, the wines there are delightful! from the sparkling to the reds, very nice.) they have some old ruins on the grounds - haven't gotten to that any of the 3 times we've been there, though. Anyway, that's a slightly different idea. |
Well, I know it is too late for the original writer, but for others looking up the Clifton Inn this might be helpful. We stayed there on a road trip from Ashville NC to CT and loved it. It is charming with a delightful Innkeeper, a fabulous creative dining experience and beautiful grounds. It is a short drive to Monticello and to downtown and UVA. We hope to return many times.
