The Carlyle-Steve Tyrell
 

Has anyone been to see Steve Tyrell at The Carlyle in NYC? My husband and I picked his version of "I've Got a Crush on You" for our first dance at our wedding (this is our honeymoon trip), and thought it might be fun to go see him live. NYE is probably out of the question, as it is a $525 cover, but his regular nights are $100 cover, not including food, and buying dinner is required. It it worth it, or should I just listen to the cd again? (o:

GAWD that's expensive. I love Steve Tyrell but for that price you can fly to Paris and listen to Edith Piaf cds.
His cover is $90 on other nights and $100 for weekends. Why don't you just save the money and fly up to see him on a Wednesday!

We were underwhelmed with Cafe Carlyle (Bobby Short). We went for the late show (which did not require dinner back then). It was recommended that we arrive early for the best seating (many seats have limited or obstructed views). We stood, herded in a corner, while it seemed to take forever for them to re-set the room. Not only did we have an obstructed view, a table of four nearby chatted during the entire show, as did folks sitting at the bar. I don't remember exactly how long the show was, but we thought is was disappointingly short.

Thanks for the replies! We're definitely skipping this one. We'll be in NYC for 10 days, and there are a lot of other things we'd rather spend the money on!

If you sit at the bar, I believe the cover charge is less and you may not have to buy dinner. I'd phone while you're here and speak to someone and ask. You might even tell whoever answers your story. They may decide to waive some charges. ;)

While I totally agree that the Carlyle's policy of insisting people dine there (instituted since Bobby Short died) is awful, it's still a swelegant spot under the right circumstances.

PS Linda Ronstadt and Rod Stewart do great renditions too.
