The Cape in early Sept.
 

Hi,<BR>Will Cape Cod and/or Martha's Vineyard be less crowded the last few days of August or<BR>early September? We're trying to beat the crowds. Thanks in advance.<BR>Pete

Labor Day weekend is a crazy time, bumper to bumper both coming and going, plan to spend lots of time in the car. <BR><BR>Next few weekends in September are much better, and the weather is usually quite nice.

Go after Labor day (First monday in Sept) weekend and...<BR><BR>1. Generally there will be less people.<BR><BR>2. Many hotels, Motels will drop their prices as in general terms Labor day signals the end of peak tourist season.<BR> <BR>3. Definitely go after Labor Day. Preferably one or two weekends after Labor Day. There are a LOT of reunions and weddings the weekend after Labor Day, so prices for accomodations haven't dropped at many places and the traffic is still dismal.

After Labor Day, but be prepared for cool weather, especially in the evenings when it can be downright cold. Swimming on Cape Cod, even in July and August, is for the hearty. Water temps do not get very comfortable.<BR><BR>Visit the Kennedy Museum in Hyannis, ferry to Martha's Vineyard for the day, enjoy excellent seafood.

Fear Not Pete. Conventional wisdom says that traffic is the worst on Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends but this is not true for Labor Day. All the families are gone with school starting and the college kids are gone as well. Having stated that; traffic will still be bad around the Cape Cod Canal on Friday afternoon Saturday morning and Monday afternoon and throughout the weekend in parts of Rt 28.<BR><BR>If you truely want to avoid crowds, though, come after Labor Day. The Cape is still plenty warn in the Fall.<BR><BR>As for MV I have no idea.<BR><BR>

If you are trying to beat the crowds, then come down during mid-week not the weekend. On weekends, the day-trippers, the weekenders, the cottage crossovers and locals are all driving around.
