The Boulders
Is there a town near Boulders and if so how far? I am staying at this resort in a few weeks and I will have a rental car. While we plan on relaxing at the resort most of the time, I like the option of dining/shopping in town. Also, what sightseeing is there nearby?

Also can anyone give any feedback on the restaurants at the resort? Cost, quality?

Thanks!

I haven't stayed at the Boulders, but I've been there for dinner and drinks, so I sorta know what it's like and where it is.

The closest interesting town, in my opinion, is Scottsdale. It has an old and new section, which offer lots of dining and shopping possibilites. Also, you'll be near Frank Lloyd Wright's house, and that's worth taking the tour.

I'm not a big fan of Phoenix, but if you want to go there, it's about a 40-minute drive.

We stayed at the Boulders a couple of years ago on business - IMHO, while it was a lovely resort, it was VERY expensive. We went into Scottsdale a couple of times - it's not that far away. Have fun!

There's a little outdoor mall/shopping center/art gallery area near the Boulders, but if you want a nice choice of restaurants and such, you'll need to hike into Scottsdale.

Scottsdale is very close---lots of great restaurants and shopping. While we were there we also went to the Phoenix Botanical gardens which was very interesting. In Scottsdale old town there are lots of art galleries. The Heard Museum(not sure if I am spelling that correctly) is great for history. While we were there we drove to Sedona stopping at Prescott along the way. We took a very scenic highway route(don't recall the road # but I'm sure the hotel can help) Sedona is very scenic with the Red Rocks etc. highly recommend. The other thing is the Frank Loyd Wright house if you are into architecture. Also directly across from the Boulders is the residential area of Carefree. We had fun driving around and checking out the houses in terms of architecture. Hope this helps---have a great time.

For a fun (and very casual) experience, ask for directions to Greasewood Flats. It's a huge outdoor bar in the desert, not too far from The Boulders. There are fire pits and a one-man band. You can get beer, burgers, etc. Dogs and children are welcome.

There are hundreds of restaurants in North Scottsdale in all price ranges. Is there anything in particular you would like?
