Aloha!
Wow, it's about time someone noticed that one! The "no comment" comment was made in deference to Auntie's favorite hot choc/hash brown place. Something sacred on that island needs to be preserved! I know how sensitive auntie is about her fabulous breakfast spot. The truth is we loved it. They have the best Portuguese sausage I've tasted (in fact I can still taste it). We went early just after they opened and had the place to ourselves. The ladies that work there are so friendly and happy!
I forgot to mention a few things before.
Shoes
Slippers, slippers, slippahs! I lived in my flip flops. I wore my Merrell sport slippahs a lot. The Keen H2 Newports were perfect for the Kalalau/Hanakap`ia debacle. I walked barefoot on the beach every morning and towards the end of the trip wore no shoes for anything.
Lumahai Beach
We loved the cove part on the far right hand side of the beach all the way to end. We came across the most territorial rooster! He ruled that part of the beach man! We called him the Kahuna of Lumahai. The water was surging pretty good, but it was fun bobbing and schmoozing conditions. Lots of people were jumping off the rocks into the waves.
I'm remembering things in dribs and drabs...

i2,
I'M WORKING ON THE BLANKING PICTURES FOR GOD'S SAKE!
Your withdrawls are nothing compared to the hell I'm goin through right now so cut me a wide berth!
Thanks for the reminder of all the other things I forgot to mention.
We never made it to the Canyon. We barely made it out of Hanalei. Infact, for almost a week we never left town except to go to Makua and Lumahai beaches. It was so nice being so close to everything that we like, we decided not to do a lot of driving. LAZY!
-We scored Pono Market fried chicken on three occassions. If you get there around 10am, it is fresh out of the fryer and is so juicy and yummy you will die and go to heaven. We even brought a pound of it for snacking on the plane ride home. Our row-mates were jealous! The guy at the security check point almost kept it when he found out what it was! I'm not joking!
We bought Aunty Liliokoi Wasabi Mustard and Lilikoi Jelly at the Koloa Days Fair. That mustard is DEEEElicious. Aunty's sister was selling the stuff and was the nicest person.
I bought two of Jacqueline's Aloha Chicks at the little shop up in Wainiha.
We bought lots of other little chotchka stuff and T-shirts too.
I bought a bunch of Green Sea Turtle stuff at the Kilaeua Lighthouse store that I am going to use when I go my Endangered Species unit with my class this year.
I passed on Tropical Tantrum this time. They have great stuff, but nothing really screamed out to me.
I hope this helps satisfy your cravings.

Aloha Bill, welcome home.
Sorry your PM sprained his wrist, but OH SO relieved he didn't tumble any further down, good grief!
My DH and I have been to Maui twice, but not Kauai yet... your trip report was very much enjoyed by us both!
Without the knowledge of where you have stayed on your previous trips, has your favorite been renting a cottage? Would you go that route again?
Mahalo, we missed you, Tiff

Aloha,
Here is the link to my photo album:
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/bquarr...=/9d38&.src=ph
It should work okay. If not, let me know.
i2,
Glad to hear you are feeling better. Thanks again for the pupus. You're a wonderful person.
Tiff,
On the previous two trips we stayed with a friend in Poipu and at the Hyatt.
Renting a house or condo is the way to go for us. We will stay at this place again as long as it is in the rental pool. It was perfect.
Hey Mary2Go and pdxgirl! I smell another GTG in the works! Auntiemaria would be game. Think about it. Fun!

We just may be able to carry on in the morning for our dreadfully long flight...hate to have to stop in Honolulu, so I'll have to have a mrskal extra shot!!! Fabulous, fabulous pictures my friend!!! You are a wonderful pair! Mrlou is trying to figure out our new digital camera....our first dontcha know! Still want an old slr and darkroom...but I'll get the hang of it! Thanks pal...my heart is pounding..breathtaking photos.
And, the pupus that were sent for your gtg were compliments of ALL your fodor's buddies and Kauai haters. At least, that's what I was was made to understand. Btw, was there a note? And, if so, what was its sentiment?
g'lou...aloha, my darlin..I cannot feel sorry for you going to "that" place. You already know what a hell-hole it is as our friend Billyboy has confirmed.

I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was funny and sweet at the same time.

Mahalo for those sumptuous photos, Bill! Kauai just never changes - it's so dependable, isn't it?! No wonder we have trouble tearing ourselves away from it in order to travel to some other destination!
