Geez you people are a mess. The Beach Cottages are in Pacific beach on Ocean Ave. They are older but very good location (on the Boardwalk)and lots of space - bedrooms, kitchen, dining area, living room. PB is a college age town but also an area that attracts many families. There are lots of bars and restaurants, a roller coaster/amusement park, shopping, etc.
The Crystal Pier cottages are ON THE PB pier. Just a couple of blocks north of the last place so same amenties - more expensive, must book way in advance, slightly nicer.
I've heard great things about the Pacific Terrace (same area though).
I personally have no problems with PB and think it is a great family area if Coronado and La Jolla are too quiet and or expensive for you. Other places that are nicer but not on the boardwalk are the Bahia and the Catamaran. Both have rooms with kitchens but are not cottages - more like large studios.
