Find me a place with the food, entertainment, safety and public transportation of NYC - but in a warmer climate - and I'm there!

(Hmm...might have to move overseas then)

Yeah, the past 2 years have been ridiculously cold and icky. But it's not normally this bad.

To each his own....

I live in the north, and always have a tough time explaining why to southerners who hate the cold. Is it not that I particularly like the cold weather, it is that I don't mind it. And to me, the payoff of many of the other positives of my region, of which I take advantage of many, far outweigh any negatives from having to wake up early to shovel snow occasionaly.

Southerners I know have said the same thing. They don't love the 95 degree/100% humidity days, but they don't mind them enough to diminish their quality of life.

Someday, I'll retire to a place that focuses more on recreation. Many of us live where we do because of incredible career and professional opportunities, but will retire elsewhere. For me, it will be a place like Jackson Hole, Sedona, maybe the San Juans in Wash..... But not Tampa, the Keys, or Hilton Head. They are all beautiful places, but not for me...

I read in the Wall St. Journal that 80% of new retirees are retiring to the very city that they lived in while they were working.... placing a premium on being close to family and old friends.

Tandoori girl, you are too funny. You bring to mind Eddie Albert singing his part on "Green Acres" (or are you too young to remember that?)
