Thanksgiving week in Santa Fe

We will be coming to Santa Fe (staying in a house) during the week of Thanksgiving. From Sat. to Sat. Arriving from Florida. 2 Adults and 1 son - age 12. My son likes the outdoors and activities. We'll have to pull him into a few art galleries etc.
Can I get some suggestions on what to see and do in and around Santa Fe. We will have a rental car so a day trip or a couple of 1/2 day trips would be great also.
Will skiing be in swing by Nov. 26th? Or will the conditions be poor? Sledding? Hiking? Tours?
We're open for any suggestions.

Nancy -- Snow and related activities are iffy in Santa Fe @ Tgiving. IT has been a wet summer so maybe?? You might have a better chance in Taos/Angel Fire/Red River.

Head south to Tent Rocks for an amazing hike among some VERY unusual rock formations. Do it in hiking boots as there may be some snow. http://www.nm.blm.gov/recreation/alb...sha_katuwe.htm

The Bradbury Museum in Los Alamos is sure to please a 12 year old. Lots of bomb stuff! http://www.lanl.gov/museum/

Don't discount heading to Albuquerque -- it's an hours drive south and there is LOTS to do there for young and old alike.

The Tinkertown Museum has gotten good reports on here lately.

I just came upon this new site and it has lots of good ABQ info: http://www.dukecityfix.com/index.php?itemid=1307

The tram to top of Sandias, Petroglyphs, Explora, Zoo, are just a few ABQ things to do.

Back in Santa Fe there's Museum Hill with the International Folk Art Museum that you and son should like and many others.

Type in Santa Fe in the search box above to get recent posts and replies. Type in Albuquerque too.

Also, click on DESTINATION link at top of page and check out Fodor suggestions for activities in both ABQ and SF; they do a great job of listing things.

If you have any more Q's...email me directly if you wish or post again.

Hope this helps...
Debi

What's the weather around Bandelier at that time? Cliff dwellings would seem pretty cool to a 12 year old (adults too), and you all might learn something too.

The weather should be really nice...Sunny days and cool/cold nights. Dress in layers is always the way to go in NM in late fall/winter. Temps will drop 30 plus degrees at night. The sun is bright and strong [use sun screen] so if always feels warmer than what the temp says. It should be in 50's during day and high 20's at night.

I have a related question to this post. I too will be in Santa Fe for Thanksgiving and was wondering does anyone have any suggestions for Thanksgiving Day dinner.
I wanted to go to a restaurant and not a hotel but I cannot find Thanksgiving menus posted on the restaurant sites except for hotels.....any ideas?
Thanks in advance

If not...here's a couple of other links to SF restaurants. Maybe call around and see who is open. http://sfreporter.com/articles/publi...rest-guide.php

Hope this helps...

AlanM, Just got my November issue of the Santa Fean and it has an article "Food Lover's Guide to Thanksgiving" listing different restaurants to celebrate Santa Fe style!
