Thanksgiving Travel Plans?
 

How far will you travel for Thanksgiving? Just across town? Stay at home? Go away?
As for us, we thought we would escape the grown children and head to the beach. Well, you got it.....they are following!!! Wouldn't have it any other way tho!!!! Seems they love their dad's dressing and can't celebrate Thanksgiving without it!

The thought of our ritual gathering for turkey and family politics one more year (always at our house, so we get to plan, cook, clean up and recover) has sent us packing. Plus Ms. Nature has decided to have it snow, thunder, hail, pour, flood and otherwise become a litany of weather woes.

So it's off to New Orleans for wet warm and T-day at Arnaud's, following stops the days before (as financial and gastric conditions allow) at NOLA, Stella, Marisol, K-Paul's, Jaques-Imo's, various po' boy outlets, diners, and other places listed in the Weight Watchers Guide to Early Death.

Then the weekend after it's a zigzag through Mississippi to Vicksburg via Leatha's BBQ place near Hattiesburg and other temples of caloric excess, culminating on Monday in Memphis. By that time I doubt if our feet will be ten feet off of Beale. More like making impressions in the sidewalks.

When we get home the relatives will have cleared out and only the background radiation of guilt will be there. Don't get me wrong, we love them, but this year we prefer to be in the presence of muffalettas instead of mother-in-laws.

No cooking, stress of family, cleaning for me. We are heading for San Antonio to a Spurs game the 26th and we'll Thanksgiving meal at the Menger hotel.Then top it off with a trip to Louisiana for casino gaming at the Grand Coushatta in Kinder.

Heading 90 miles west to Keystone for some great early season skiing. Gave up trying to please all the family years ago. ;)

No cooking or traveling for me. Not going home this year cause we're going to Puerto Rico for a week 2 weeks from today.
Work has been rough the past 10 days and I'm looking forward to doing absolutely nothing on Thanksgiving.

This is our fist Turkey Day without my Mother who passed away last year, so we are going to toast her, with the beautiful wine glasses she gave us, and enjoy closeness with family and friends.

Husband and I are headed to Savannah, our first trip there! We can't wait to leave!! This is also our first Thanksgiving away from family and we're ok with that. Last year's was the first holiday after my MIL died and it was pretty awful. It's nice to have something different and new to look forward to this year. And, no cooking or cleaning!!:)

No TG travel for us this year...

It's my birthday... looking forward to a great celebration meal with wonderful family...

We leave tomorrow for The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina. We are having Thanksgiving a week early to accommodate other family members.

We are Happily cooking for just ourselves this year! As it's crab season here we may just break the rules and follow the road to the coast for some truly fresh catch!The next day it's off to Yountville for the Fodorites GTG at the Festival of Lights.
Looking forward to meeting Kal >:)and Marilyn @};- and....? After all that general silliness we'll do a little more winery hoping on Saturday for Solstice/Christmas
presents and roll home to roaring fire!

Much sympathy to you both--the first year (or two, to be honest) after the death of a parent really really stinks. My wonderful dad died four years ago this Sunday and it seems like yesterday in many ways. We all miss him and yes, we too plan on giving his memory a big toast on Thanksgiving. As for the day itself, my husband's entire family is driving 400 miles across Nebraska to be with us and my mother. After consuming 8 million calories at Thanksgiving dinner we'll pack up the cars and all head to Boulder, Colorado for the Nebraska-Colorado game on Friday. Bowing to the travel board 'eyes,' we'll be staying at the Omni Interlocken, our favorite hotel anywhere. Pretty sure Nebraska will lose this year so we'll plan on drowning our sorrows that night at Bloom, a great restaurant near the Omni. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and a big thank you to those of you who have loved ones fighting for our country overseas--the very best to you and your families.

The Yankee and I are flying off to Las Vegas this year. Never been away for Thanksgiving before:) Should be fun.
Pup will celebrate Thanksgiving with the bichons and the pup sitter out in the country.

Off to Napa for our annual feast with in-laws and assorteds. Bro-in-law is a Napa fireman who cooks a splendid feast. The day afterwards we are gathering in Yountville for a Fodor's GTG with Kal and many more. Happy T-day to all.

Tess, thanks for your kind words. Thanksgiving and Christmas were both hard last year; I'm not sure what to expect this year. So, I guess we're basically avoiding a repeat and getting out of town on our own. It's nice b/c I feel absolutely no stress about driving to visit relatives, trying to cook, clean,or even wondering if we'll have a bed to sleep on at the relatives! This is kind of nice--we're doing something fun and I think it will be a wonderful trip! Enjoy consuming your 8 million calories--I plan to do the same in Savannah!!:)

For the first time ever we are taking a vacation over Thanksgiving. Going to Maui and am I ready--it snowed 6 inches last night!
