Thanksgiving scheduling mess: where to go to dinner on Thanksgiving in Detroit area??

By the time I reach Detroit on Wednesday of this week, I'll have traveled more than 4,000 miles by air since Sunday afternoon. Problem is, the dinner that was supposed to occur on Thursday has evaporated. My in-laws, who previously were planning to host us at their home on Thursday, changed the dinner plans to Saturday when we'll be 200 miles away in southwestern Michigan visiting my parents. Thus, my family and I find ourselves without a place for dinner on my favoriite holiday. (My family, not expecting us on Thursday have all made plans with their respective in-laws and aren't available.)

My wife (who will have logged the same amount of air travel this week) thinks she should chew her parents out for this gaff. I just want a decent meal.

I haven't lived in the Detroit metro area in years----can someone suggest some place that will serve us a great traditional Thanksgiving Day meal? We'll be staying in the northwest suburbs on that day but are open to drive virtually any where. PLEASE help my wife and I to salvage our turkey day. Where should we go????

I'll post another day for suggestions on where to spend next year's Thanksgiving---Barbados sounds good right now!

Here you go, a link to an article in today's Detroit Free Press listing several great places to eat in the Detroit area on Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

I don't suppose just staying home and cancelling the trip is an option - airlines have eased their rules on some cancellations, letting you just reschedule to a later time (if you fly this much, I guess you know that).

I wonder if you'll be able to get into the Townsend Hotel. The lobby will be very festive for the holidays and with the fires roaring it would be lovely. Food is excellent and it is intimate. The hotel is in downtown Birmingham, my old hometown, and is wonderful and luxurious.

Dearborn Inn (think Greenfield Village, etc.) serves a very traditional meal and the Inn is the epitome of traditional American style.

You could try:

The Holly Hotel in Clarkston
Camp Ticonderoga in Troy
Mac & Ray's in Harrison Township
The St. Clair Inn
The Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron

These are all places we considered for Thanksgiving. I decided to cook, but any of these would be a good choice.

We had a very cold Thanksgiving one year at the St. Clair Inn. Very holiday feeling. The Holly Inn is also lovely. Good recommendations.

I've already touted the Holly Hotel on another post! The Thanksgiving dinner is only $25 for adults,I think that's very fair for a restaurant with the reputation it has! You can view the menu at www.hollyhotel.com. Wherever you go, let us know how it was!
