Thanksgiving in Vermont/Maine
Hi there! My husband and I are in the USA for 6 mths (Boston) and wish to celebrate Thanksgiving in either Vermont or Maine. We only have 3-4 days vacation. Can anyone please recommend somewhere that's really beautiful (both accom. and scenery), romantic, with great food and things to do eg. skiing?
Thinking along the lines of a hunting lodge or country inn. Also, as we have never skied before - can some-one recommend somewhere we can learn?!! Many thanks, Kofki. |
perhaps Stowe Vermont, perhaps Topnotch or the Van Trapp family lodge...or southern coastal maine would be nice, however with skiing on your mind, stowe I think good luck

Woodstock Vermont is a very charming town, with some nice places to stay. It is also about 1/2 hour from Killington if you want to try skiing. There is also a nice smaller ski area close by called Suicide Six, but it may not be open that early in the season. You also may want to consider New Hampshire which has some spectacular mountain scenery. Jackson is one of the nicest villages in NH. Realize that there may not be snow this early in the year, but it will still be relaxing and beautiful (and probably cold!). I would also recommend Stowe Vermont, which also has more of a chance of having some snow, but it's a further ride from Boston.

Hi,
Head up to Bethel,Maine and stay at the Inn.Sunday River is already open with skiing on man made snow and what ever they got last night.Winter is here. |
Except for the skiing part, my favorites for your requirements would be:
Village: The Woodstock Inn in Woodstock, VT Mountain: Mount Washington Inn in Bretton Woods, NH Ocean: Black Point Inn in Scarborough, ME All of the above would have beautiful scenery and romatic accommodations. Skiing is a bit more difficult this time of year. Sunday River does have excellent man-made skiing. Stowe, Vermont has the best chance of real snow. Or you could fly to Mont Tremblant in Quebec, obviously foregoing the traditional Thanksgiving feast! Have fun! |
