Thanksgiving in Telluride?

First of all I have to apologize because I've posted a zillion times on planning my vacation and asked a zillion questions, so I'm sure people are getting tired of me. :) My next question is: how would Thanksgiving in Telluride, CO be and what can I expect? Overcrowded? Where I live, it gets crowded but not overly so and there isn't a lot open during that time because of the holidays.

My dilemma is to abandon my family for Thanksgiving and spend time alone with husband in Telluride, or go Nov. 11 when we have a few days off where everything is closed, or, wait a few more months to a year and plan things out earlier. Help!

beachjaunt, go for Thanksgiving! Typically not very crowded anyplace in Colorado at that time. It is still considered off season so rate should be low. Good choice!

it's funny 'cause I didn't think anyone else would ever do such a thing, but about 3 years ago my wife and I and her sister and husband went to Telluride for Thanksgiving. We stayed at the Ice House, a really great condo/rental facility. It's about two blocks off the main drag in downtown. Super place.

It was, indeed, much less crowded at Thanksgiving than i would have thought. The weather was a little iffy - at times we had a little snow, other times, really cold temps, than other times very pleasant weather.

We had a great time. I really like Telluride.

I would say go with Thanksgiving if you don't mind it being just the two of you. I posted info on your other question about operation dates for the Gondola and it won't be open in early Nov.

They have sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating...Sounds like it could be really fun and romantic!

We stayed at The Hotel Telluride which I would recommend as well. Only draw back is it's a little further from all the shops (maybe 5 blocks) so it could be a cold walk in the winter. However, on their website I am pretty sure they have free shuttle rides to town and the gondola. The rooms were great, nice ammenities, spa and outdoor hot tub that looks out to the mountain. I think there are a lot of nice places to stay though and you could even opt to stay in the mountain village.
