Thanksgiving in Savannah or Charleston

Thinking of spending Thanksgiving weekend in either Savannah or Charleston. We have never been to Savannah, but did spend a weekend in Charleston which we absolutely loved. What type of weather should we expect in both places at that time of year? Is it a good time to visit or will restaurants and attractions be closed for the holiday?
Has anyone used VRBO in Savannah? Any recommendations for restaurants or places to stay would be most appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I have been to both and although Savannah is very nice, I too am in love with Charleston. I don't think you will get a huge difference in weather, although Charleston will likely be a bit cooler I would say. If it were me, I would pick Charleston in a minute.

A lot of places may be closed on Thanksgiving Day itself but should be open the other days you are there. I am sure you will find at least a restaurant or two that meets your liking that is open. The number of places open or closed won't be that different between the two cities, I don't think.

If you are planning to eat out on Thanksgiving Day I would definitely make it a point to get reservations. Even places that normally have open tables could fill up. While most of us picture turkey at home that day, I know a good population just lets a restaurant do the cooking for them!

The weather could be anything from 70 to 30, with it probably being in the 50s during the day. You'll need a sweater or jacket. You could see some rain. I would definitely make reservations for dining on Thanksgiving Day. Most shops and other attractions will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

I was surprised at how many restaurants were open last Thanksgiving. I know SNOB had a special dinner, and I can't remember which others. Another option is to rent a house on the beach. Cook Thanksgiving while looking at the ocean. The weather might be nice enough to play on the beach. The sasanquas might be blooming at Middleton. It's a beautiful time to visit.

Thanks to all of you who answered. Looks like it will be Charleston if we go and save Savannah for another time. We'll be sure to make reservations for dinner and SNOB sounds great. Had dinner there last time we visited and loved it. Thanks again.

for thanksgiving in charleston, try the middleton place plantation...make reservations early though, as they do fill up in spaces...they have a beautiful covered huge white pavillion tent, lovely white tablecloth covered tables...and a FEAST!! turkey, sweet corn pudding, glazed ham, sweet potato casserole, olra gumbo, black eyed peas, tons of veggies, pumpkin pies, pecan pies, salads, fresh breads...oh so good. You can also go on a carriage ride, and to the petting zoo and feed the goats!! There are beautiful landscaped gardens, an old rice mill, and cabins, and when we went they had Bison!! One of the best thanksgiving meals ever!! Serene, gentile place...great food...friendly people, a carriage ride and you'll just have a great time.

And the weather will be spectacular if it isn't raining--and that can never be exactly controlled. I would also spring for the plantation if it is available for a really memeorable day.
