Thanksgiving Dinner NYC
My dad is visiting me during Thanksgiving weekend and I want to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner without burning a hole in my pocket! ($90 per person for turkey is too much!)
Would Heartland Brewery be okay for Thanksgiving? I've never had food there. Most of the restaurants listed on opentable.com's thanksgiving selection are either pricey or non-traditional. |

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend Heartland Brewery. The food is ok.. nothing great. I'd recommend
Ocean Grill - located on Columbus Ave at 77th Street. You can view the Thanksgiving menu online at www.brguestrestaurants.com BR Guest is a group of great restaurants. You should check out all the menus. I live near Ocean Grill and it's fantastic. They are offering an a la carte menu on Thanksgiving and the turkey entree is $22.00 If it's out of your price range, I'll keep checking. I really just don't think Heartland Brewery is that good. |
My family is coming in that weekend and we're going to one of my faves BLT Steak. Their PF is $68pp. However i'm not sure how crowded things are now as I made the reservation a month ago. One of the great parts about living in a tiny apartment - no expectations of cooking a big meal and no table to serve it at! They did fax the menu to me however and it looks great!

Heartland Brewery is a - surprise! - BREWERY with pub grub food and a focus on its microbrews.
I like it just fine for what it is, but I would NOT go there for a Thanksgiving meal. |
You can often find good neighborhood restaurants with excellent Thanksgiving menus for $30 per person or less. Benjamin, a small restaurant near where I live (it's on the corner of 2nd Ave. and 33rd Street) does a great Thanksgiving. And there are little restaurants like this all over Manhattan, some not requiring reservation far in advance. If you can avoid the big places (and I wouldn't really recommend Heartland, to be honest), you can eat well. If it's not too inconvenient for where you live, make a reservation at Benjamin.

Restaurants often offer a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal even if that isn't their usual fare. Call the non-traditional places that interest you and ask.
