THANKSGIVING DINNER IN NYC
We are spending Thanksgiving in New York and coming from Scotland would like to experience a 'Traditional' Thanksgiving Dinner. Any suggested Restuarants near to the Sofitel Hotel which would be serving this?

There are a ton of restaurants that will serve Thanksgiving dinner in NYC. Most of them will start posting reservation information a few weeks before - they will all be a prix fixe. Check out www.newyorkmetro.com for menus and places as the date gets closer. Is there any reason you need to be near the Sofitel? The city is not crowded that day so it will be easy to get around.

Generally this is not a great fday to eat out - as every place open is packed and serving very elaborate dinners - so the staff is stretched to the utmost.
The general rule is for restaurants to have specific seatings - 2pm,, 4pm 6pm etc - which makes it even worse, since on a regular day people come and go at diffeent times, spreading out the work load. so go - enjoy yourself - but realize that in most places you're not getting their best. I always reco Fraunces Tavern - but it is downtown - since it specializes in American food, is generally fine (not great) but has wonderful historic associations (this is where Washington bade farewell to his troops at the end of the Revolution, when NYC was the capitol of the US). |
opentable.com is a reservation website you might start perusing what they have listed. It's a bit early for Thanksgiving. Here's a few suggestions from previous years
http://gonyc.about.com/od/thanksgivingdinner/index.htm DB Bistro Moderne is right on the same block as your hotel and very good, but limiting yourself to places around the hotel is a mistake, imo. I think the places outside midtown are generally cosier and more interesting. |

I ditto Fraunces Tavern downtown.
It will be so much less crazy downtown. |
