Thanksgiving Dinner in NYC

My 17 year old daughter and I will be in NYC on Thanksgiving day. Any reccomendations for dinner? We would like to make it a special night since we will be away from our family. Dressy but not unaffordable.

I think you are very late in making your plans but I would try Rock Centre Cafe. This is not one of the foodie places I normally talk about but I am thinking about your request and I feel this location would be very special.

The Rock Centre Cafe is located right in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza and over looks the skating rink. You will see the huge tree although it may not be lit yet but other Christmas decor will be present. You can look at the windows at Saks Fifth Avenue and other stores. This is a Restaurant Associates restaurant and the food is very good quality and reasonable given its location. They do Thanksgiving dinner.

I don't know what you consider affordable but I had mentioned on another string the other day that Terrace in the Sky (terraceinthesky.com) has a TG dinner for $70/person that looks excellent. Beautiful views (it's on the top of an apt building near Columbia U.)

Le Madeleine, one of our favorite restaurants, has a special Thanksgiving Day meal, which is reasonably priced at $35 (or $40 with wine). Seatings are from noon-7 p.m. It's located on 43rd Street, just west of Ninth Avenue (212-246-2993).

MommaM,
Cafe Bondi on West 20th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues used to serve a "If the Pilgrims had Come from Sicily" menu. The Plaza Hotel's Oak Room is serving dinner for $75.00, Aureole on East 61st Street is $90.00, Bryant Park Grill is $45.00 and Metrazur in Grand Central is $46.00. Just out of curiosity, if I may ask, is your daughter in a band or cheerleading squad that is performing in the parade?

HowardR - Do you know if Le Madeleine does a special Christmas Day dinner also?

I don't know about Christmas at Le Madeleine. I only know about Thanksgiving, as they had a flyer about it the last time I was there. Why don't you give them a call?

We had dinner at Le Madeleine last Thanksgiving and we'll be there again next Thursday. Good stuff!
