Try High Cotton. They have a great Thanksgiving special and their food is superb. The Charleston Grill in Charleston Place is also very good at Thanksgiving (we did this last year), but I've heard wonderful thing about High Cotton and I've never heard a bad review of their food. Many other restaurants have Thanksgiving menus. Closer to the holiday. Take a look at charleston.net and charlestoncitypaper.com and you may find some others. Have fun!

Anyone else have any suggestions? My husband and I will be in staying in the Historic District Thanksgiving as well and looking for somewhere to eat dinner that night. We are looking for something a little more casual for food/fun/drinks and and not quite as overpriced as previous suggestions.
Thank you in advance!!

I understand if you want to save money, there is nothing wrong with that. Put please try to use the proper phrasing. The above suggestions are not "overpriced" at all. They are exceptionally reasonably priced restaurants for what they are. What you mean to ask is, "does anybody have any suggestions for inexpensive restaurants." Sorry to get on my high horse, but there really is a big difference. And I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions, the wonderful places I know in Charleston are all going to be in that same price range.

I have to agree with Patrick. Compared to places such as Miami, New York, San Fran, and Chicago (yes, you can compare them because Charleston always appears on the top ten best US cities to visit lists with the above) Charleston restaurant prices are cheap. You can dine at the nicest places in town for $30pp.
Having said that, one of the most reasonable places to eat that is very very good is the K&W Cafeteria on Rivers Avenue. It will be jam packed as Thanksgiving is their busiest day of the year.

As for the original post, here's the list of the local newspaper's top 20 restaurants for 2003.
Most have websitesand you can check menus and specials on several.
To "londons2": you were totally out of line with your response. Patrick's been posting here a long time and is virtually always a source of great advice. His intentions are to be of assistance, not to attack anonymous posters.
Further, I agree with his point, and you have insulted me since I don't find Charleston's better restaurants overprices at all compared with prices at similar quality establishments in SF, NYC and Chicago. In essence you're telling all of us who enjoy Charleston's better restaurants that we're too foolish to recognize we're being duped by the owners of these restaurants.

Back to the original questions - where's a good yet inexpensive place for a family of four to dine on Thanksgiving dinner evening? Doens't have to be fancy, just taste good! Yes, I realize there are numerous great restaurants in Charleston, and I'm not into debating whether or not they're worth the prices - all I want here is some simple recommendations for an economical solution to our family dining needs! Thanks!

GoTravel: Good suggestion. Being from the South originally, I can vouch that some of the best cheap eats were those Southern cafeterias (ahhh, the Picadilly in Lake Charles and that killer fried okra!!).
This thread amazes me, in that I am floored that anyone would consider $30 pp for a holiday dinner (on the day of the holiday) expensive!! That is dirt-cheap for a good sit-down joint in most major cities. And it's NOT "overpriced"-- unless you're used to Olive Garden.
