Thanksgiving dinner in Blowing Rock
Any suggestions for a memorable Thanksgiving dinner for my family of 4?
We are planning a short getaway for the holiday, meeting up with our college kids. We're staying in a rustic cabin - don't mind *roughing it*, but not for the holiday dinner! Looking for a warm and cozy atmosphere, where we won't be hurried to make room for the next seating. We've never stayed in Blowing Rock and are open to all ideas. |
There will be plenty to choose from but make reservations now. I wonder if the Green Park Inn will be open. Burnsville Inn just north of BR. and Daniel Boone Inn in Boone.

Whatever you do, get reservations. Blowing Rock Thanksgiving weekend is crowded, especially if the weather is nice. We were there last year the Friday after T-giving, and there were lines out the door at the best eateries (Storie Street, Crippens, etc.).
You can always scoot down to Banner Elk for less crowd. Its got several good little spots as well, and you can hit Grandfather Mountain from there. Mast Farm Inn in Valle Crucis would be great Thanksgiving Day and about a 10-15 minute drive. |
Thanks all...
it looks like Crippens, Twigs and Best Cellar will all be closed for the holiday. Any thoughts on Manor House at Chetola or the Gamekeeper Restaurant? Mast Farm Inn is another possibility. We are looking for a traditional "New England" style Thanksgiving (old habits die hard!), which I have always prepared at home...but don't want to tackle in a cabin kitchen. I have given myself a deadline of this week to make a reservation (and hope I'm not too late at that). |
Maybe Jackalope's View on Beech Mountain? We enjoyed dinner there last year, and if you're there during the day they have fabulous views as they are perched on the side of Beech. http://www.archersinn.com/jackalopes.htm

I think you would find the Mast Farm experience much more appealing than the Manor House at Chetola, which can be very inconsistent.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts - we are booked at the Mast Farm Inn.
