THANKSGIVING?
 

Just a quick question for all you Americans. I believe Thanksgiving Day is 23 November but could you please tell me how much holiday people generally take either side of this date. I ask because at the moment we are busy planning our holiday to Florida and prefer not to go during a busy time. We plan to go at the beginning of November. <BR>Thanks for your help. <BR>Nic

Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday, and it seems like virtually everyone these days takes the Friday off to make a 4-day weekend. That makes the preceding Wednesday and the Sunday, to a lesser extent the Monday, the heavy travel days. A few people take the entire week, but not enough to affect your travel plans, I wouldn't think. There certainly wouldn't be any impact as early as the beginning of November.

Nic, you'll probably miss Thanksgiving Day but you'll probably hit Election Day (the first Tuesday in Nov., this year the 7th.) The Florida Governor is Jeb Bush, W's brother. So Wednesday the 8th might either be a day of celebration or mourning in Florida. No, wait, it will be both. Probably won't affect travel plans, though, unless you're a lobbyist. <BR> <BR>If you haven't been in the US for a national election, it will be a treat (IMO, but I love the "swing-ometer" in British elections too, so that must prove I'm weird.) <BR> <BR>If you like politics, plan on some serious TV time if you'll be here then.

The Thanksgiving holiday is one of, if not the, busiest travel periods in the USA. Beginning of November will be pretty calm. <BR> <BR>John: <BR> <BR>It will be a day of jubilation all over the country when George W. Bush and Dick Cheney replace Bubba ( Clinton ) and Algor.

The day before Thanksgiving (22nd this year) is the heaviest travel day of the year; the Sunday after ranks up there as among the top 10 travel days -- and add to that the fact that by the end of Nov., there is the possibility of an early snow storm and the chances of getting messed up in air travel are pretty great. My advice: Finish your trip by Nov. 18th (Sat. before T'giving). <BR> <BR>The election won't have any effect on your travels, except for the strange group of Democrat-bashers who love to bring up politics whenever they can possibly pull it in.
