Thanks for the great advice

I often browse your forum for ideas, suggestions and inspiration and I love it, so thanks  I recently followed the advice of one of your members who suggested that I visit http://auction.bidthenbuy.com/Travel-3252-1.html to find quality, new and pre-owned luggage and travel accessories. I usually greet these kinds of posts with skepticism, but I needed to buy my husband a reliable set of luggage for his trip to the US and thought what the hell! Not only did I find a fantastic gift for my husband, I also splurged on a new set for myself and my two kids! Not bad going hey! Just wanted to say that often there are posts with links worth following.

The advertising police are on your tail, it's a no-no.

HowardR Jan 13th, 2005 05:47 AM

And I usually greet this kind of post with skepticism.

The dog ate my homework.

Yah, right, who directed you to this website? I went there and got totally ripped off -- the merchandise was shoddy, the customer service nasty, and I'm out a lot of money. Stay AWAY from these people. "Pre-owned"??? Who buys "pre-owned" luggage -- IMO it's probably all pre-owned, even the stuff listed as new.

Go away KathPops. Shoo. Shoo.

soccr Jan 13th, 2005 08:17 AM

Oh, yes, and remember the guy with the suitcase full of cockroaches who was kicked off SW airlines on the "Airport" show? He got it at that website.

Seriously: there's never been ANY mention of "bidthenbuy" on this forum. EVER.

Suzie Jan 13th, 2005 08:51 AM

LOL! This is so fake but let's give credit to the wrtiter who at least tried to disguise the ad. It's better than first time poster who say they just found this GREAT place and then go on to copy the description from the brochure.

I especially enjoy those of you who combat this type of advertising not by pointing out the obvious, that it's an ad, but who write hidiously negative comments about the subject of the ad.

Who does buy used luggage? The last time I saw someone excited about used luggage was George Bailey on It's A Wonderful Life.

GoTravel Jan 13th, 2005 08:54 AM

I don't know why used luggage sounds so gross to me. Kinda like used underwear.

FainaAgain Jan 13th, 2005 08:54 AM

Anybody wants a slightly used suicase? European-made, good condition, full of sentimental memories. FREE OF CHARGE!

Isn't it great to know that we give such great advice that she never needed to even ask a question before?!

Al_LaCarte Jan 13th, 2005 12:30 PM

I wonder what the shipping and handling costs would be on getting a five-piece luggage set mailed to your house? How about steamer trunks?

"Pre-owned" luggage!? I was "used" by a woman for three years, does that mean I'm "pre-owned"?

gail Jan 13th, 2005 12:36 PM

Now I know what happened to all the luggage that disappeared from USAir in Philadelphia on 12/26.

Fodoriets--you are a witty bunch. Thanks for the laughs at the expense of KathPops enterprise.

This is like one of those ads I used to get in the mail. It's looks like an article that's been ripped out of a magazine and has a post it note attached "Hey, great meeting you! Here's that article we discussed and I think this investment system was the one that interested you!"

kgh8m Jan 13th, 2005 01:22 PM

Ha, Ryan! I got one of those in the mail in college - hand-written envelope, torn our newspaper ad, and a hand-written post-it note proclaiming that the sender knew it would be right for me. And, of course, it was for weight loss, and I knew no one in the return address town. So I was puzzled thinking of the rude, anonymous stranger who thought I needed to lose weight!

BTW, not only who buys used luggage, who sells their luggage in the first place? It's either stolen, or some poor soul's lost luggage. I wonder if people make money by posting messages on boards like this. How much per post?

Meesthare Jan 13th, 2005 01:35 PM

Do they sell emotional baggage there, too? I have some I could drop off.

GoTravel Jan 13th, 2005 02:47 PM

Whatever happened to the guy that wanted to buy a luxury coach and rent it out to people he drove around?

Scarlett Jan 13th, 2005 02:52 PM

LOL :) Meesthare!!
I have some of that to sell, no, no, I will donate it..
The image of used luggage to me has something to do with old black and white movies with bodies in the trunk :O

soccr Jan 13th, 2005 06:20 PM

Suspect Kath is a saucy bit of baggage, herself. So if she's pre-owned, does that make her an old bag?

FainaAgain Jan 14th, 2005 09:40 AM

Soccr, I hope she will read this! Ha ha ha ha ha
