thanks for info
Thank you for the information. I have been offered a nice (cheap I think) room with bath, etc. in Soho through this organisation and wanted to be sure they a serious company.
I want to say how much the info you all give is fantastic. I am coming the New York in October from France with a friend and have managed to get so many tips through reading all the messages and replies. One question? We will go on a day trip (not with a group) to the Niagara falls and the flight from la Guardia is at 08.10 am. How long does it take to get to the airport from Soho and how long does one have to be at the airport before an internal flight - same as international 2 hours? |
hi roofr, i really can't help with the info you need except to say domestic flights require 1 hour advance. post a new question - how long from soho to la guardida by 8:10 am. new yorkers will have very specific routes and mode of transportation to advise for you. you might say as precisely as you know where in soho you will be. that way they can tell you exactly which subway station to enter or whatever... enjoy your stay in the states.
what organization is it that you are getting the room in soho from? |
Hello Virginia, thank you for the information re domestic flights. It looks as though we will have to get up early!!
I posted under bed&breakfast in New York City and Mclaurie answered. I was trying to reply but hadn't realised I should have clicked on "post a reply". First time using this. The company is City Lights bed & breakfast and looks very good on the web site, but you never know what things are really like without some knowledgable information. That is why I posted on Fodor under New York (it went under USA too) as I find the information offered is really good. |
You will be going against the main commuter traffic at the hour. Still, I'd allow for 45-60 minutes to get to the airport by cab, just in case there's an accident.
Arriving at the airport an hour to an hour and a quarter before the flight should be okay. |
Thank you - we were thinking of using the subway and then the Q33 bus (cheaper). Would this take longer? Leaving from Spring Street on the 4,5,6 to Grand Central then the 7 to Roosevelt Av - Jackson Heights. This is our first time in NYC but I have been doing a lot of studying!!

Just take a taxi. You don't want to be dealing with subways and buses at that hour and miss the plane.
BUT, have you committed to this day tour yet? If not, I'd suggest you can probably do it cheaper on your own. Fly Jet Blue (jetblue.com) from JFK (for which you can use the subway) to Buffalo, NY. From there, either rent a car or take a tour from the Buffalo airport to Niagara Falls. I've heard many of the packaged day trips from NYC fly to Rochester rather than Buffalo and you wind up with a longer bus ride and it's still more expensive. How many of you are there? |
Sorry, just reread and it's not a tour. Are you sure this is the cheapest flight? La Guardia is certainly closer to Manhattan than JFK, but Jet Blue is usually cheaper.

I just checked on Jet Blue (thanks for the link) it is 12$ more expensive than priceline. I had thought of renting a car through BreezeNet for 53$ as we are two and the transport from Buffalo to the falls seems long and expensive.
We arrive at 9.35 am and I thought of getting the 7.25 pm return flight to give us enough time to do various different visits to the falls, boat, wirlpool, walks behind the falls, etc. Would it be better to take an earlier flight back I think there is one around 5.30 pm? I don't want to hang around, probably a bit wet, wondering what else to do. We will take a taxi from Soho rather than the subway as you think it would be better. We have to watch our money as my friend doesn't earn very much. |
What airline are you talking about using from LGA? Priceline is just a booking agent. Make sure the flight is to Buffalo, NY and non-stop. You may be able to get the same price direct from the airline.
There's a light show at night at the falls. As long as you're there you should try to see it. There are also fireworks every Friday and Sunday at 10 pm. http://www.niagarafallsstatepark.com/ The must do's at the falls are: >ride the Maid o' the Mist (boat) >see the falls from both the US and Canada (don't forget to bring your passports). I think renting a car and driving yourselves is the best idea but not sure how complicated it is to bring a rental car across the border into Canada these days. Also, you have to make sure the insurance is included in any rental price you look at. Sometimes insurance can double the price of the rental. |
The airline to Buffalo (BUF) direct is US Airways and was the best deal I could find. I will check with the airline direct. thanks.
We are going on a Thursday as we have tickets for Wicked on Friday evening. I will see if there is a later flight so we can see the light show - good idea. If I booked the whole thing (flight + car hire) with Expedia uk it comes to the same price and all the insurance for the car is included. I will check with BreezeNet for the insurance also if I can take the car over to Canada as we definitely want to do that. Thanks again for all your help. |
