Thai food in NYC
Still love Thai food (is it no longer "in?) so if anyone knows of a good, authentic Thai place that is a fave of their's, please share the restaurant name with me. I love things like chicken with basil, fish cakes and mee grob and good coconut soup, and also chicken mussaman. HELP

Some of the folks at egullet.com and chowhound.com have repeatedly insisted that the most authentic Thai food in Manhattan (i.e. least Americanized) is at Pam's Real Thai on W 49th just west of 9th Ave. I've been there twice - once was fantastic - second time two of our four entrees were disappointing. The yellow curry was bland and the duck with chili sauce was all hot no flavor. Just be careful what dishes you order - they do have great food and low prices - I'll return. Pong Sri has pretty good atmosphere - it's a local chain with a location in theatre district - food is good not fantastic. I personally prefer Royal Siam on 9th Ave in the low 40's. Intimate atmosphere and really good food.

My favorite (and has been for a long time now) is Kin Khao in SoHo:

171 Spring St
Phone: (212) 966-3939

Great food and a nice atmosphere. Plus (big plus), that area could certainly use your money.
