Tetons/Yellowstone (Sept. 2013) - book flights or lodging first?

For September 2013, which should I do first?

We'll probably fly into Salt Lake City.

Lodging. They can fill fast, although in Sept you will probably be fine. Get your lodging as soon as it is available, so you can stay exactly where and how you want to.

We really enjoyed Roosevelt, Old Faithful Inn(not lodge), Lake Hotel. We stayed at Colter Village Cabins and they were fine. A lot of people like Signal Mnt.

I think most of these do close at various times in Sept(not sure exactly when though).

Keep a distance from the elk when they are in rut.

Thanks for the lodging suggestions spiro.

I know I have a little bit of time (but it sure is flying!), but I do need to get with the other folks traveling with us to decide on definite dates.

Lodging for sure if you want to stay in the park.

Our take on some park lodging:
Old Faithful Inn = Loved. Stayed in one of the "newer" rooms.
Mammoth Hotel = Okay. Just stayed for one night when we got in very late. Shared bathroom in the hall.
Canyon Lodge = Good. Run the water for a long time to get it warm.

Forgot one... we also stayed at Colter Bay Village and liked it. Cute log cabin.

My husband and I went last year and absolutely LOVED the Old Faithful Inn. Especially if you want to stay in an older room, book early, but it depends on your personal preference somewhat on older and newer. Book rooms first. Definitely take a tour of the Inn and eat in the dining room. A magnificent place. Also, depending on where you are coming from, you might consider flying into Idaho Falls unless there is a reason you wish to fly into SLC. Just a thought. Enjoy! We are soooo eager to return.

I agree with Spirobulldog's recs for YNP, but my favorite place to stay in the Tetons is a view room at Jackson Lake Lodge.

I do think that the two dining areas of Jackson Lake Lodge are interesting and good. We didn't stay there, but yes, it would be great choice too. Very dramatic windows.

Lodging is always more limited than seats.
