Tetons, Whitefish or Midway?
My husband and I were given a travel gift album that gives us the option of travelling to the Grand Tetons, Midway, UT, or Whitefish, MT. I'm not familiar with this part of the country and really don't know what each of these places have to offer. We will be going for 3 nights and 4 days sometime in October or November. We enjoy hiking, biking, sight seeing, skiing, etc. Our options for hotels are:
-The Grand Targhee in Alta, WY (Tetons & Yellowstone) -Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, MT or -The Homestead Resort in Midway, UT. Any suggestions you can offer are greatly appreciated. |
My choice would be the Grand Tetons, which are beautiful and very near Yellowstone National Park. I wonder, though, about the weather--especially in November.

Go with the Tetons. I have been there and to Whitefish. Both are great but the Tetons are unbeatable. I have been there five times. You get the best scenery in the country (Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone) as well as a neat town (Jackson) with great restaurants, shopping and cowboy flair. November will be tough unless you ski. The Teton area really slows down after Labor Day. I have stayed at Grand Targhee in the summer and I would not recommend it. It is too far from Jackson. If you ski, it might be different.

Midway is in the Heber Valley along the Wasatch Mountains, and is in close proximity to Park City. It is a small hamlet that is proud of its Swiss heritage. You'll have plenty of options for hiking, and possibly horseback riding as well, although ski resorts won't open until closer to Thanksgiving. It's a great area for scenic drives if you'll have access to a car. And it's not that far from the Sundance Resort, either.

Whitefish is a small touristy town in Northwest Montana. Big mountain ski area is located here though will not open for skiing till Thanksgiving. Glacier national park is approx. 35 miles away for hiking but the Going To The Sun Road will be closed in November. For more info: www.whitefishmt.com www.grousemountainlodge.com |
