Terrible problems posting

Sorry but I'm losing patience. I can't seem to post on any thread. I've tried both AOL and Firefox servers. I can't even log in on AOL (9.0VR) The only thing I seem able to do is post a new thread which is what I'm doing.

NewbE Aug 12th, 2008 11:49 AM

I can post, but the pages are still loading painfully slowly, to the point that my browser times out, especially when I click on my screen name to see the threads I've posted to. I'm using Safari, btw--things are better than they were a day or two ago, but still not great.

crefloors Aug 12th, 2008 11:49 AM

I'm having the same problems and was going to the Lounge and here I am. Others are complaining about the same thing.

Do these IT people, or what ever they are called, make a lot of money? If they do, they are WAY over paid.

crefloors Aug 12th, 2008 12:24 PM

I clicked on US and got the lounge and that was after going to every forum on here, trying to open it and getting nothing.

I've noticed a problem the last two days as well. :(

Katie_H Aug 12th, 2008 12:33 PM

mclaurie- I apologize for the hassle. Just to clarify-- when you go to reply on a thread, what happens?

PTDreamer Aug 12th, 2008 01:01 PM

Katie_H
I just posted a Yellowstone trip report so others could read and help them, and Its only in the US forum and when i do a search for Yellowstone it doesnt come up. what did I do wrong?

janisj Aug 12th, 2008 01:38 PM

&quot;<i>what did I do wrong?</i>&quot;

Nothing really. Here is your thread http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35149778

The search function doesn't work very well. It is one of the things Fodors is &quot;working on&quot;.

Since you didn't click on Wyoming before posting your report, it won't show up if folks click on Wyoming. But it is there where it would be in any case - on the only forum -- &quot;United States&quot;.

It would have been better to click Wyoming - but unfortunately you can't go back after the fact. But the trip report is there and some will find it.

(I'm not Katie :) but hope that explains things a bit)

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2008 02:05 PM

PT, the answer is in your question &quot;I just posted&quot;.

The search does not work immediately. Wait till the next day, if the search won't pull it up then, it's a problem.

NeoPatrick Aug 12th, 2008 02:05 PM

I'm having no problem posting, but once again (as it's been most of the time for about the last month), it is painfully slow to reload. When I click on my own name to see my posts, or switch from Europe to US, I get only the heading for a long, long time until the actual posts come up on the left. Sometimes they never no, I have to click again and then maybe again before I get anything. After I post a reply, I'm facing a blank screen (except for the Fodors heading) for ages and ages.

suze Aug 12th, 2008 02:33 PM

I've been able to post but for weeks now have had problems with the various forum loading property and in a timely fashion.

Judyrem Aug 12th, 2008 03:13 PM

So that's why very few people are posting on my men's Olympic thread ;-). The site is bit touchy lately.

socialworker Aug 12th, 2008 04:35 PM

Relieved to find out that &quot;the problem is not in my set&quot;. :)

Surfergirl Aug 12th, 2008 06:54 PM

** what neoPatrick said ** :)

Betsy Aug 12th, 2008 07:25 PM

My experience has been precisely the same as NeoPatrick's.

Gardyloo Aug 12th, 2008 07:30 PM

It might be nice for Fodors to put a &quot;sticky&quot; thread at the top of each forum in which site troubles and the status of repairs (if any) could be covered.

It's been seriously buggy for days, and just when you think it's fixed, it goes fubar again.

LoveItaly Aug 12th, 2008 08:23 PM

I have had the same problem that Patrick described for days..about a week? Well it started at the same time the Tagging was added. But Katie said that their tech people are working on upgrading the website and hope to have the upgrade completed by fall and the thought was that is what is causing the problems. So guess from the sounds of it this will be a constant problem these next months. Very frustrating and consequently I am not on Fodor's as much as usual. Of course that is a good thing!

CAPH52 Aug 12th, 2008 10:04 PM

I couldn't get to any of the forums on Fodor's for a couple of hours earlier this evening. And it showed me as unregistered so I'd go to the registration page only to go back and show as unregistered again. Very frustrating!

But probably just as well as I had other things I needed to be doing anyway! :D

schnauzer Aug 12th, 2008 10:56 PM

I too have been having several problems with Fodors. Like others, really, really slow to load, to the point where you just give up. Also I fell off the log in/register thing and had to start again. Also clicking on Europe and getting lounge or vice versa.

The forums are taking ages to load as well. All in all, very frustrating.

Me too...what they said! Driving me crazy(er).

Jed Aug 13th, 2008 06:21 AM

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. I go do something else and come back later. ;;) ((*))

suze Aug 13th, 2008 07:06 AM

The slow loading is one thing.

But it's been bringing up the wrong forums, sorting in weird ways (all the first 50 US posts are for Alaska), I click the Lounge and get Smart Travel Tips, etc.

NeoPatrick Aug 13th, 2008 07:13 AM

I don't want to jinx it, but so far this morning everything has been working perfectly -- and fast!

FainaAgain Aug 13th, 2008 07:58 AM

For me, the loading is still slow. The posting, opening of the threads is normal.

mlgb Aug 13th, 2008 08:31 AM

Searching for a phrase is still horribly slow.

I wonder if the new Java update has anything to do with this? My computer seems much slower since I uploaded it.

FainaAgain Aug 13th, 2008 10:10 AM

My Java is not updated, I get the notifications popping up sometimes, and cancel them.

NeoPatrick Aug 13th, 2008 10:15 AM

Uh-oh. I guess I did jinx it. I just returned to the computer, tried to refresh by clicking my name and waited nearly 5 minutes for the posts to come up.

Katie_H Aug 13th, 2008 11:58 AM

This is definitely a problem on our end. We have many people working on a fix. Thanks for being patient and keeping us updated on your own experience.

LoveItaly Aug 13th, 2008 03:58 PM

Hi Katie, it is strange but basically I am not able to click on the threads in the Lounge about 30% of the time but I can click on the threads in the other Forums. I just tried the Lounge again oh five or so minutes and had the problem. Switched over here to the US Forum and had no problem at all.

NeoPatrick Aug 13th, 2008 04:11 PM

I think what is absolutely bizarre and must be driving you editors nuts is that some of us have totally different problem from others. How can you fix problems that are not consistent between posters? But good luck. I know you are trying.
