Tennessee: shopping for cowboy boots
I would love recommendations on where to shop for cowboy boots (women's) in or near Nashville or Memphis. Any general style advice, warnings, about cowboy boots also welcome. I am a New Yorker planning first trip to these places.

A few tips from someone who owns a LOT of cowboy boots:
1. You want your heel to move a little when you walk in new boots. 2. Plan to wear thick socks with your boots (to keep them from blistering your feet), and try them on with the thick socks to make sure you get a pair that fits! 3. The current "style" is either the Lucchese (brand) style in an exotic leather with a walking heel and a pointy toe, or the thick crepe-soled ropers in fun colors. |
Christie you're a dream come true, thank you!! what's a walking heel, and what other kinds of heels are we distinguishing it from?

I believe a walking heel is more stable as opposed to a heel designed for riding. Downtown Nashville has a several tourist stores with boots. Definitely follow ChristieP's advice while shopping. You can spend a LOT or buy cheap ones; but I go for comfort. I prefer more of a riding boot with a slightly more rounded toe and higher on the calf. You may want to check out the Boot Corral (north of Nash.) and RCC Western (www.rccwestern.com). Some dept. stores carry them in the fall. I buy mine at a little shop in Franklin,TN called the Cowboy Store. Also, make sure they are soft on the calf if worn inside pants or with a skirt. Have I just reinforced everyone's opinion of TN and country?? Oh well, have fun shopping and enjoy your trip.

I'm going to bounce this up in spite of excellent answers so far in case there's anybody else out there with an idea of a specific place to shop for cowboy boots in Memphis or Nashville. For example, a place likely to have low prices?
ChristieP I looked at Lucchese boots on the Internet - they are beautiful _ I am especially drawn to the ones in amazing colors. |
Tony Lamas are very nice cowboy boots.
