Ten Thousand Islands

We are heading down to Collier-Seminole SP over the last week of March. We are packing sea-kayaks and doing some camping. I was trying to find out what the access was like to the Ten Thousand Island area. We aren't looking to paddle more than a couple of miles, hoping to find an area to beach up and just hide away and relax.

Can anybody tell me if we are heading in the right direction or is there a better area we should be paddling in south west FL?

Also looking for any leads on nice quiet beaches in that area? This could be anywhere from Fort Meyers to Marco Island?

Thanks for the help!

Dave

I've always thought Pine Island would be a fun place to be with a kayak. Lots of mangrove, but no beach.

Where is Pine Island? I think we're willing to spend a day paddling the mangroves and then a seperate day on the beach? Any more ideas?

This looks like a very comprehensive web site for Pine Island. Why not look into staying a night or two here and staying at Captiva as well. The problem with the Ten Thousand Island area will be accomodations.

also, search the fodors web site for another kayak post from a few days ago. Someone who wanted to kayak on in city of Palm Coast. I sent them a web site for the FL. kayakers assoc. or something like that. I'd think you could get really great advise by emailing the Assoc.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I started reading about Pine Island and it sounds nice. Does anybody know the where abouts of Lovers Cove in FL? I saw it mentioned last night on the travel Channels top ten beaches of FL and it looks really nice too.
