Tempe or Downtown Scottsdale?

Hi All. Going to Phoenix Coyotes game in January and stumped on where to stay. Although, the Coyotes game is in Glendale we would like to stay in Tempe or Downtown Scottsdale. Any suggestions?

I will be traveling with my husband, sister, and brother-in-law who are all in our mid thirties. We would like a hotel which is in walking distance to restaurants, and nightlife. We don't want to be totally surrounded by college students, therefore,a little hesitant to stay in Tempe area, but like what the area has to offer.

I am interested in Tempe Mission Palms, and Summerfield Suites by Wyndham in Scottsdale. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Depending on when in January you are there, ASU may not be in session, so there won't be as many students. As an ASU alum, I can tell you the major problem w/ DT Tempe is not the college students but the hordes of teenagers from all over the PHX metro area that descend on Mill Ave on weekends (Midweek it is usually pretty quiet). That said, it can be an enjoyable place to spend an evening - There is a good selection of restaurants and bars, not all college oriented (I'm in my thirties now myself). The Tempe Mission Palms is a nice hotel with a great location (Walking distance to all points downtown). DT Scottsdale has no shortage of nightlife or restaurants (Los Olivos has good Mexican food) but it is not as compact as Tempe - be prepared to do some driving here. I'm not familiar w/ the Wyndham - you might check out the Marriott Suites as well.

I'd like to suggest the Embassy Suites Biltmore, a fabulous location at 24th Street and Camelback...surrounds include all sorts of restaurants, Biltmore Fashion Square, Ritz Carlton, Houston's, movie theaters, etc. It is a very nice part of town and it will be high season as far as prices, so you may want to stay closer to the new arena...Arrowhead(75th Avenue and Bell) has several of the chain type motel/hotels and also has a mall, loads of restaurants, movies, etc..

Thirty somethings? I'd recommend downtown Scottsdale. I don't know the Summerfield, but most of the hotels that are in downtown (or Old Town) are close to everything: Galleries, Night Clubs, great dining.

Tempe is great and a lot of fun, I just prefer Scottsdale restaurants and nightlife (I'm 31).

CHRISNU7 - you said you got a great internet rate at Princess? What rate, what site? I have had no luck getting what appeared to be ANY better rates at the top hotels in Scottsdale/Phoenix. Thanks

Can you tell me if you want to use priceline to get a good rate is it better to make reservations now for Arizona or wait till its closer to the time we go in March?
