Temecula, Ca. Wine Country....?

Has anybody here traveled to Temecula wine country and visited any restaurants or wineries there you enjoyed?

Do you feel it was worth a short trip?

Thanks!

I live close by. We've done the wineries and it was a fantastic day. But, I really can't imagine spending more than a day or two there. Maybe combine it with a trip to LA, Orange County or San Diego.

BTW, Thornton has a fantastic Pinot Blanc.

I thought the environmentalists' refusal to permit spraying for the critters that carried Pierce's Disease wiped out the vineyards in Temecula.
I further thought that all the grapes were now "trucked in" to keep the wineries open.
Any updates?

wow, where did you hear that, Mikemo???
Here I live about 90 minutes away from Temecula, and it's never been mentioned in the newspapers or tv news...

Thanks for your suggestions, BobbiOh. By the way, have you seen the new South Coast Winery Resort? Their rooms look nice on their website...

A couple or three year's ago when I was researching Calloway's Chenin Blanc.
Any further updates?

Can't find anything about problems with the vineyards...online pics (which can be deceiving) have lots of pics of healthy looking vines...

We stopped in Temecula for a few hours on our San Diego trip last spring. We had a great time. Had a good Italian deli sandwich at Mount Palomar and enjoyed tasting and the folks at the Maurice Car'rie winery. Their wines were fairly sweet but we liked their whites. I've never been to the valleys in Northern California but we had a good time at Temecula.

I live nearby and have visited the wineries. I think they are worth a visit if you are in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip for them or anything. I agree with BobbyOh about trying Thornton.

I have also heard that the majority of the wines are produced by out of area stock but I don't know how true that is.

Hi again, my just spent a weekend in Temecula, and stayed at a new resort called, the south coast winery resort & spa. It's brand new, with the rooms more like little villas, sharing no common walls. Really nice rooms, with wonderful bathrooms, and private patios. Highly recommend this place for a quick romantic getaway from the LA or Orange County area. Thornton Winery's Cafe Champagne has excellent food.
It's a prettier area than I'd imagined, too, but then spring this year in California is just beautiful almost anywhere!

I thought it was a fun day- the names of the wineries kind of blur together but I think its called Wilson Creek - had an almond flavored champagne that they mix with some port and serve in a chocolate shell - it was wonderful-
Definately worth a day trip
