Hiking trail? in which town? How difficult? How long? Gondola at Telluride? or where? I'd like to help, but I need more details.

You don't want help from gbindenver. One of those people who has to post a reply to anything and everything relating to Colorado. A travel agent wanna be.

The gondola goes from the mtn village to downtown (there are two sections, the mtn village being the posh resort and the downtown being the traditional ski town).

Mucho hiking trails, just ask around. I would hike the ski resort up to the higher points, great views of the big peaks. You can probably get a ride on the chairlift half way up.

enjoy.

The San Sophia had an excellent reputation when I researched it a few years back as a possible place to stay. Did not stay there as we wanted to stay on top of the mountain but walked pass and it looked lovely. Enjoy your trip...I wish I was going as it is real sunny there and just such a beautiful spot.

You're very perspective, "Fran", I do want to be a travel agent when I grow up.

Oh Fran, I meant to say PERCEPTIVE.

Hi Angie,

We were in Telluride for a 3 nights a couple of weeks ago and we did two hikes out there. The Bear Creek Trail takes about a couple of hours and at the end is a gorgeous waterfall. Bring along something in case it rains. That hike is not very difficult. A more strenuous hike (moderately difficult) is the Hope Lake Trail and the views are just stunning up there. It's about a 3 and a half hour hike. Breathtaking vistas and alpine flowers, "the hills are alive with music" kind of thing. You can ask around, the San Sophia probably has a hiking book there or the owners can tell you about good hikes I'm sure. If you want any restaurant advice, we liked Excelsior Cafe, and it's on the main street. For more upscale dining, 221 South Oak was excellent, and definitely worthy of a special occasion. The garlic mashed potatoes are worth going for alone. Enjoy!

Hello
Many thanks for my replies,i will definately do the 2 hikes suggested by traveller.
Any more tips on accomodations in Telluride?
Thanks
Angie

Hi Angie,
If it helps any, when we were in Telluride we walked past the San Sophia and it looked like a really lovely place to stay in a good location...close to the lifts and close to restaurants. The Colorado Guide, 4th edition which was my "bible" for the trip, heartily recommends it. For what it's worth, the book mentions lots of hikes in CO too, two of which I've mentioned.
