Tea in NYC
A great article on the many places to have tea in NYC:

The tea selection & quality at McNulty's is simply extraordinary. I go often and usually try something new.

Thx a mint for your post! I've bookmarked it for my next trip.
Recently, I was stopped in front Teavana at the mall. I should have run away when after I tasted the sample offered, I asked if they had Darjeeling and the staff replied puzzled, "is that a green tea?" However, I felt it might be too rude for me to just leave as she beckoned me inside. Her coworkers' ferocious pace of cross-sales to those around me was amusing to watch. The young lady next to me at the counter gasped to her gf, "I've never spent this much on tea stuff before!" as the cashier casually slid over $80 onto her credit card. I declined the offer to "get 10% off if you buy a pound!" and twice-offered cross-sales of tins, etc. And said I just wanted to try a bit of the tea first: Darjeeling Puttabong Black Tea (1st flush) $15 for 2 oz. Back at home I was disappointed that the tea leaf quality was quite poor: just shards of leaves. I look fwd to buying tea from a real tea shop! Enjoy-la! |
The article doesn't mention one of my favorites in NY, which is the Tea Salon at Takashimaya. Delicious hot and cold teas, daily bento box, sandwiches, salads, etc. A lovely spot for a bite during a day of shopping.

Oh, yes, Takashimaya...how wonderful.
It get the Thingorjus Stamp of Approval. Buy some SMN pot-pourri whilst you are there. Dreadful DeFarge |
Yesterday in the travel section of our newspaper, there was a review of tea in the Palm Court of the newly reopened Plaza Hotel. It was a rave review, but the price is $60.
