taxis in Philadelphia

Are taxis plentiful in center city? Can you hail them as in NYC? Is traveling to Philadelphia without a car realistic? Thanks.

There are a lot of taxis n the tourist areas. Philadelphia is also a very walkable city.

Philadelphia is a city where having a car during your visit is not only unnecessary but a complete nuisance. The drivers are insane, parking in a garage is expensive (street parking is either un-available or a rip-off), and the streets are narrow. Do NOT use your car once you get to Philly.

Finding them is no problem. Dodging them as they drive even more like maniacs than other drivers is the REAL problem.

We were in Philadephia this past Labor Day weekend and did not need a car at all.

The Philly Phlash is great. I would recommend checking it out.

One problem with the Philly Phlash is that it will not start running till may 1.
