Restaurant recommendation for NY after graduation at Madison Square Garden
Hello,
I am looking for something not too outrageously
expensive. Something comfortable for us (parents) and daughter. Something not too formal. Italian food would be nice. Thank you

That is definitely not a great restaurant area.
Are you willing to look at other areas of the city - or are you locked into trains?
And, not sure what YOU mean by not outrageous. (Our neighborhood Italian is $60 to $70 for dinner for 2, with 1 glass of wine each.) And are you planning on drinks or a bottle of wine or ?

I appreciate the responses. 60.00 to 70.00 for two is fine. Yes, we can go to different area. We are staying in the Chelsea area. Any ideas. It doesn't have to be Italian. Just someplace nice and friendly. Thanks.

You might like Le Zie 2000 on 7th Avenue and 21st street - in Chelsea. very friendly, neighborhood Venetian spot with very good food - it's a little small, but the service is good and prices quite reasonable. not a bad distance from the garden - a 20 minute walk (for non-NY'ers) or a $7. cab ride straight down 7th Avenue. You can even take the #20 bus right there!
I've also heard good things about Tre Dici, at 128 W. 26th St. between 6th and 7th - but I haven't personally been there. I'm told it's quite tasty Italian, very friendly staff - not great food but good.

A graduation is a momentous occasion, so while I don't think you have to spend a fortune, I do think it should be someplace memorable. I see no need to stay near MSG or your hotel unless someone has mobility problems.
That said, there's a new place called >Zipper Tavern near MSG. This copied from gayot.com
Zipper Tavern brings some much needed pizzazz to the area around Madison Square Garden. A combination restaurant, bar and theatre located in former zipper factory, Zipper Tavern seeks to capture some of the glamour of New York’s Vaudeville era. That translates to a menu that skews toward dense, filling favorites like lasagna, pierogies, and brisket. Zipper Tavern, 336 West 37th St., New York, 212-695-4600.
>Cibo is a nice Italian with very good value prix fixe meals (lunch, brunch and dinner--you don't mention time of day)

>ViceVersa is another nice place with good prix fixe meals. You can hop on a subway underneath MSG and be there in 10 minutes.

Hello everyone,
Thank you all for your suggestions, but the daughter has chosen, Lupa for her graduation dinner at 9:30pm. Has anyone had any experience with this restaurant? Just wondering. Thanks.

Lupa is great, but definitely very cramped. It's also not near MSG. I think you'll like it, just want to mke sure you know it's not walking distance. If you're willing to travel around a bit in the city, then I would recommend Crispo, Il Mattone, or La Foccacia as well.

Gets a good review in Zagat's "polished", "deserves all it's rich praise", etc. Just be sure you can make a reservation. According to Zagat's: Pitch a tent on the sidewalk because it's nearly impossible to snag a table.
