Taxi vs Airport Shuttle to Monte Carlo
We plan to turn in our rental car in Vegas after touring Utah and would like to know if taxis are available at the car rental agencies to take us to our hotel (the Monte Carlo). We feel it would be much quicker and possibly cheaper to take a taxi than to have to be taken to where shuttles depart for the Strip. I estimate that the distance from the airport to the Monte Carlo is no more than 3 or 4 miles at the very most and the fare would be around $5.90-$7.70. According to the information I have, the cost of a shuttle would be $8.00 for the two of us. Am I figuring correctly? Or perhaps taxis are available right at the rental car agencies. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

you may or may not have considered this, but drop the car off, take the rental car shuttle bus to the airport, get out and you'll have your pick of cabs, which i would imagine would be thin if nonexistant at the rental agencies. from the airport to monte carlo shouldnt cost you more than about $10.

Just be sure the cab driver takes the most direct route to the Monte Carlo. The first and only cab ride I took in Vegas turned out to be much more expensive than I expected. The driver took the back streets and turned what I thought would be a short trip into a much longer trip with an expensive fare.

Why don't you want to keep the rental car? When we stayed at the Monte Carlo, our rental car made so many things easy, like eating way off the strip, visiting casinos off and on the strip, going downtown without having to pay for a taxi or taking the bus (horrible experience!), etc. Every hotel/casino has free parking lots. I've been in LV more than 10 times and wouldn't dream of not having a car.
