Taxi vs airport shuttle Back Bay to Logan?

Please advise the average taxi fare from the Coplley Square area to Logan. Is there an extra charge for the tunnel? Or would it be less expensive to take the shuttle? I would appreciate your advice.

Trips FROM Logan do cost extra because there's a $4.50 toll for inbound cabs. The far will be about $20, dpeending on exactly where your hotel is, how heavy traffic is, etc.

There is no "the" shuttle, they're private and have different rates. The Massport shuttle bus at Logan doesn't take people into town, it goes between terminals, subway station, and parking ots.

Since a taxi charges per trip and most shuttles charge per passenger, a taxi is probably cheaper for 2 or 3 people traveling together.

We took a cab from Logan to the Westin in Copley Square two years ago and our fare was $25 plus tip. Since we both had rolling luggage, we decided to take the subway back to Logan on our way home. The subway fare was only $1, and you don't have to tip as well. I believe that the subway fare has increased to $1.50 now, but was really worth it to us. Again, we felt comfortable on the subway after spending a few days figuring out the routes. You can access the route maps on MBTA website.

The fare for the subway increased to $1.25. From the Back Bay/Copley area, you'd take the subway's Green or Orange line to the Blue Line, to the Airport stop, where you switch to the free Massport Shuttle to your terminal.

Thanks Anonymous.....I knew it increased but was not sure how much. It really is an easy way to go, but I can understand the intimidation one might have if they have never traveled via subway.

Thanks Anonymous, Highbay, and Cigalechanta. We aren't intimidated by the subway but will have too much luggage to handle going that way. The two of us want to go TO Logan from the Copley Square Hotel, not in the opposite direction, as we are touring the rest of New England in a rental car from Logan before turning in the car in downtown Boston 3 days before we fly home. I have found a shuttle company which charges $10 per person one way to Logan, but it takes them one hour and 10 minutes after pickup to reach the airport! For a 3 p.m. flight, we would be picked up at 11:55 and reach Logan about 1:05. I'm trying to find if savvy budget travelers prefer going to the airport by taxi. Is the fare more than $20? Thanks again for advice.

What about returning the car to the airport so that you are able to drive there?

What about subway from the airport to Tremont house on Tremont st? This is where I'll be staying the first night. In the hotel description they say a stop is across from the hotel.

Are there lots of stairs? My suitcase may be heavy.

It will cost $20 for a taxi, take the taxi. Not only will it save you time, but you can just grab one when you need it instead of risking the specific shuttle not showing up.
