Taxi rates in New Orleans

Does anybody know what the going rate is now for taxis from the airport to the French Quarter? Thanks.

$28

Thanks - we're now prepared.

Well, maybe not so prepared. Logically, it seems like $30 should be handed to the driver, but two bucks seems like a measly tip. Am I right?

When i was in NO a little over a year ago, the rates from the airport were dependent upon the number of people. I don't know the exact numbers, but it could be something like $28 for 1 passenger, then $35 if 2 passengers, $38 for 3 passengers....

Don't know if they changed the fare schedule, but that's how it worked when i was there, so since you say "we are prepared" i'd get clarification if you really want to know the fixed cost before you go.

$28 for one or two people. For three or more, it's $10 per person.

In July, we paid $12 per person for a total of $48 plus a tip.

Yes, the price is dependent on the number of passengers. If you will be taking a taxi from the Quarter back to the airport late at night (i.e., if your hotel is near the airport and you have been in the Quarter enjoying yourself), make sure you verify the fare before the taxi takes off - my friends did not do this and were in for a big surprise when the driver told them their total.
Oops, sorry for the double post.

G is right...verify the price. It's a fixed price to/from the airport only! "Near" the airport is a meter rate which can be higher.

How about the tip thing?

J Correa Sep 9th, 2002 08:37 AM

I generally give about a 15% tip to the cab driver, more if I have a lot of luggage or if I ask the cab driver for some extra info or something.

Jim Sep 9th, 2002 11:46 AM

Tips are personal, just as in restaurants. I give the cab drivers $3-5, depending on toll.
