Taxi or Airport Shuttle???
I know this has been discussed to some great length; but I am simply running out of time for any more searching.
We will be arriving on a VERY Late Flight into LaGuardia(possibly midnight or later). We will need transportation to a Midtown hotel; Times Square area.
I see the prices for airport shuttle as $l6 round trip each. There will be four people with approx. l bag each. Can we all fit into a taxi. The previous posting for the taxi ride look like around $25 round trip.
Just need to know what would be the most convient way to travel at this time with this many people. Thanks in advance.

If more than 2 people (which you are), take a taxi... it'll be cheaper and quicker.

There will be room for you all with 3 in the back seat and one up front in the passenger seat. Your luggage will have to fit in the trunk and/or carry on bags on your lap.

You should definitely take a taxi. They generally have very large trunks and should be able to handle your baggage. It will be cheaper and easier as well.

Susan,

Having just visited NYC, my best advice for you is to use a Taxi. Our cost was $27 plus tip one-way fare. Good Luck and enjoy NYC!!!!

Okay, sounds like a taxi is the way to go. Now, one more question. Since we will be arriving really late at night, and have only been to the city once before,(had a package deal that included Mears shuttle), where do we go and who do we look for???
Thanks again.
|
Not only is a taxi the way to go the trip will take 30 minutes or less at that time of night. THe cost will be under $30 tip and tll included. Your last post is confusing - What is a "Mears shuttle"?
|
Mears was just a shuttle service(Van) that was pre-arranged by our travel agent.
For this trip I did not use a travel agent.
The question I have is. When we land and pick up our luggage, where do we go and who or what do we look for to get a taxi ride?? I don't want to get led astray by all of the drivers that we saw standing around the airport exit on our last trip; and especially since we will be arriving so late at night. I have read previous post on being lead astray; that sounded rather scary. Just want to know what to look for so as to be safe.

Look for the signs. I was there a few months ago & don't remember exactly what they looked like but it was clear. There is a guy that asks which borough & points to the taxi to take.
|
The taxi line is outside the luggage retrieval area near the American Airline area in the main terminal. There will be a line of people waiting for a taxi. A dispatcher controls the line so you won't have people jumping the line to get a cab. it is well organized. Ignore those people around the luggage area who offer to drive you to the city in a limo. The taxi line is serviced by yellow cabs only. From LGA you pay the meter rate.
|
Finding a taxi will be self-explanatory when you get into LGA. Just follow the crowd and/or the signs. Usually there's a uniformed person in charge of placing people in taxis.

And it's without a doubt the best way to get to Midtown. Enjoy NYC!
