taxi from BWI to Downtown DC

Does anybody know what it will cost to take a taxi from the BWI airport to Downtown DC
(Capital Hill area)?

rb_travelerxATyahoo Oct 28th, 2005 12:20 PM

About $63 according to the official BWI website
http://www.bwiairport.com/ground_tra...d_private_car/

Why not take a MARC train to Washington's Union Station at $6 and taxi from there, unless it's a weekend or Federal holiday.

An altrenatve anytime is the B-30 express bus to the Metro's Greenbelt station. It runs 7 days per week, every 40 minutes, costs about $3, and leaves from right outside the BWI terminal.

I agree with you, Anonymous. I often take B30 even on a weekday - it's all according to which one will arrive first. On my return (and the B30 is only $2.10 with a valid transfer slip) I often use MARC as I have visions of a filled bus (has never happened) and I'm left waiting another 40 minutes for the next one.

If you enter BWI and most DC addresses it will give you walking, bus, and rail portions of your journey, times, costs, directions ... it's great!

I felt anyone who asks first thing about a taxi instead of "travel options" probably wouldn't be inclined to use a bus.

I asked about a taxi because I was not sure of other options.
Thanks for the info

And my taxi wouldn't accept credit cards on that trip either.

Since you sound as if you're open to public transit, Bettina222, here'a a bit more info:

Free buses from the air terminal to the BWI rail station make stops at the sidewalk immediately outside the baggage areas. You also have an option, including weekends, of using Amtrak, but Amtrak will be more expensive than the MARC commuter train that runs weekdays only. You can use cash/check/credit card for tickets.

The B30 bus picks up at the pedestrian island outside A terminal -- to your left you will see a couple of bus shelters ... and also on the pedestrians island outside the international terminal. Bus fare will be $3 coin or change, but no change is given back. The buses have luggage racks and as Greenbelt is at the beginning of the line, you should be able to board with bags (limited size and number) with no problem. You can gauge how much you'll want to transfer when you get to the transfer station or maybe take a cab from there to your destination.

Use the website
http://rideguide.wmata.com for directions, times and prices of Metro & Metrobus. You can use BWI as the starting point, or Union Station if you take the train in.

There is also shuttle services too, but if you're traveling relatively light, the train and/or bus/subway works just great.

rb_travelerxATyahoo advice is "right on" It is so easy...
I've done this (Marc train)into DC several times with two pieces of luggage and no problems.
Never tried bus because train seemed to work so well. Just keep in mind my trips were always middays and weekdays.

We'll be arriving on a Thursday evening around 5:30 or so (Veterans Day Weekend) and leaving on Sunday late afternoon

rb_travelerxATyahoo Nov 1st, 2005 08:06 AM

MARC trains to DC leave BWI at 5:25pm, 6:25, 7:25, 9:30 with about 50 min travel time for $6

B30 buses on weekdays leave from A terminal at 5:38pm, 6:18, 6:58 and every 40 min.

On Sunday, B30 leave Greenbelt at 2Pm and every 40 min after. Get a tranfer coupon from the dispenser next to the excalator at the station you board Metro at (or any other station except @ Breenbelt) and you'll only pay $2.10 for the busfare. Have exact fare.
