Taxi fares in Las Vegas

Planning a trip this week to Las Vegas. Have been there twice before and each time stayed at MGM (will this time, too - it's great) and rented a car. But this time, plan not to rent, but use taxis. What are the fares like to other points on the strip? To & from airport? Thanks for any information.

Fares are pretty reasonable. To go up the strip though, you might as well use the free monorail from the MGM to Bally's.

Be careful when taking a taxi from the airport to the MGM. Some drivers have a new scam going where they tell you that its faster to go through the "new tunnel". It is actually a very roundabout and much longer route. I wasn't paying attention once and ended up being taken that route and refused to pay the driver the additional cost (it was about double the normal fare). I asked another driver about it and he said it is a common trick played by some drivers.

Hi,

I travelled from the Las vegas Hilton to the Flamingo at the end of august ( it was about $8.50 ($10 with tip)).
Also from the Mandaly Bay to the Belz factory outlets just south of the airport ( lots of good stuff at cheaper prices than here in the UK) it was again arouns $8 ($10 with tip)

We stay at the Rio often and take taxis all the time from there to the strip..and elsewhere, it is never expensive..From the airport to the Rio which is the same exit as the MGM was $10.-12.00 dollars.

Listen to David,,,was in Vegas in sept, and had that pulled on me..cost me over 20 bucks to go from airport to Ventian thru the "tunnel"..be sure to tell your driver to take you the "shortest" route rather than "fastest" and if they dont ask..tell them NOT THRU THE TUNNEL!!!

We got shafted too, taking the taxi from the airport to the Mirage last week. It cost us $18 plus $2 tip. However, going the other way, it was only $11 including tip. Geez.

I'm a frequent traveler to LV, and ALWAYS rent a car
If you see one of the posters spent $10one way from the Hilton to the flamingo roundtrip is $20, might as well get your own car, parking is free everywhere.....

Ok, so I go to Vegas for four nights. Instead of spending $10 each way for a taxi since I never use the car, I think next time I'll get a cheap rental car at $29.99 if that is even possible, and park it in the free parking. Then I will have only spent $80 instead of $20. Yea, that's a real good idea. Thanks for the tip.

God, am I stupid. That was a much better deal than I was thinking. I did the math wrong. I meant that by renting a car I could spend only $120 instead of $20. Your suggestion just gets better and better, Anthony. Got any more helpful hints for Vegas?

If someone wanted to take day trips of course they would have the smarts to rent a car. But nothing was said in the original post about that. The question was how much for trips by taxi on the strip and from the airport, but guess you couldn't read that. And you call me dumb? By the way, when are you going to be in Las Vegas so we will all know to stay away at that time. Nice language, charmer.

The previous post under my name was NOT me.....
I never use language like that.

Anyway, I still stand behind my opinion about renting a car. Funny, I live in Manhattan, where I'm used to public transportation & cabs. But I ALWAYS rent a car when I travel. There really isn't any other American city you can vacation in comfortably without a car.
Anyway, cabfares add up. I enjoy trips to downtown, to the outlet mall, Lake Las Vegas, etc. I've read posts where people walk from the Hilton to other casinos along the strip - I would never do that - I rather not waste my energy walking from casino to casino, and save my strength walking WITHIN the casinos and gambling and window shopping.
It's funny, most Americans outside of Manhattan never walk anywhere, not even to a store that's within walking distance in the neighborhoods they live in. Yet, renting a car in LV seems like such a debate.

I was also taken on 'the cab-ride-from-hell'. After asking for the fastest ride from the Stratosphere to the airport we actually ended up on a freeway (possibly what they refer to as the 'tunnel'. My ride which cost me $14. on the way there, ended up costing $25. on the route back to the airport.
Maybe some of us should start complaining to the hotels where we catch rides with these unscrupulous cabbies - don't they know that they make their living from tourist dollars. Guess what folks, next trip I'm taking the city bus which goes right to the Las Vegas Hilton for a paltry $1.25. No more cabbies.

After getting that "too much traffic, I'll take the quicker route" routine to my hotel a couple of years ago, when I returned to the airport the driver again said, "I just came up the strip. It is jammed, for just a couple of bucks more I can go the back way." I insisted that I wanted to make a final trip down the strip. After arguing about it back and forth, he finally agreed when I insisted. He drove in embarrassed silence as there was literally NO traffic that afternoon on the strip and we sailed right down to the airport. This isn't a matter of the actual money. It just burns me that they make up a story to get a few extra bucks from a fare.

You know what really burns me? these damn cab drivers wear tee shirts! When I am all dressed up and have somewhere to go and there they are, all sweaty and wearing shorts and tee shirts. Is there no place where they will respect my need for refinement!
