Tax Refund Vacations?
 

As I sit at my desk at work, this big-mouth co-worker of mine is saying how she's getting a $3,000.00 tax refund and is using it for a luxurious vacation.<BR>I'm getting bubkus but was just wondering if anyone is getting a refund and using it for a great trip?

Glad she'll have fun. My wife and I are shelling out $18,000 today. That should put me nicely over the six-figure mark in tax payments.

The fact that she is getting a tax refund means she was overpaying her taxes all of last year - in other words she made an interest free loan to the government for $3,000.<BR><BR>And I am not sure how $3,000 would buy a luxurious vacation anywhere?

I received $24.50 refund and I'm going to use it to cover all flights, lodging, and meals for a luxury 14 day vacation in Canada. I'm going to stay at the 4 Seasons. I expect to have about $3 in change from the trip and I'm going to try to buy New Brunswick.<BR><BR>

I wish I were getting a refund! We would be booked on an all-inclusive trip to Jamaica in a heartbeat if so. TRight now some of the VERY luxurious resorts are running spring specials for $1099/person! Unfortunately we shelled out $2200 on Friday to IRS! (in comparison to the $18k x is getting hit with I guess we have it good!?!!)

Tell your co-worker to save her chump change. If she's blabbing about a $3,000 tax refund it looks like she may need it in the future.

My husband and I miscalculated and ended up with a big refund after thinking we were going to owe a lot. (How often does THIS happen? I'll probably never be so lucky again - and yes, I understand we should have been getting interest instead of leaving it with the government.)<BR><BR>My first reaction was "PARIS!!!"; then I calmed down and just decided to save it.

I am getting a really good refund this year. Using a chunk of it on two nights in Key West, 2 nights at the Delano in Miami Beach.

I'm going to blow my $487 on a day spa in Chicago. Massage, manicure, pedicure, the works. <BR>If I have a couple of bucks left, I'll get a Starbucks Frappucino.

What amazes me is that those of you who say you are "getting" a refund haven't yet received it. Not only have you given uncle sam use of your cash for the year but you didn't apply to get it back at the earliest opportunity. Why did you wait so long to get your oney back?

I received $175.00 and took my family across the border to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a fun-filled day of eating cheese and bratwurst. Mmmmm good.

We are headed to Maui for 8 days with our $2,500 refund. We're ready for the sun and relaxation :)<BR><BR>And before I get scolded for having such a large refund, it is because we just got married and bought a house so it's tough to estimate our taxes. Plus, we couldn't e-file early due to my husband's former employer that became a dot-bomb and royally messed up the W-2's. It irks me to have Uncle Sam using my money, but not next year!

I had to pay $14,000 this year but I'm still taking my girlfriend to Lanai to pop the question.<BR>If I did get any money back I would save it for our wedding (hopefully)on the beach in St. Barts.

I remember (do I have good memory!!) the time when people were getting $300 tax refunds - I even got a family refund $600!!! I just don't remember where did the money go :((

The average refund amount this year has risen sharply to $2000 -- so says the IRS.

I stupidly got a refund, too: $4,700 from federal and state. I could have easily figured it much closer, even though we just bought a house, but I'm lazy and didn't do it. But I had enough sense to file at the end of January, and got my refund the first week of February.

We got a refund in early February and just blew $1,000 of it on a weekend in New York City. It was great.

I say if you have a tax return and spare it for a vacation...GO FOR IT!!<BR><BR>All the people who responded negatively are just jealous.<BR><BR>My husband and I are paying a pretty penny on taxes as well, but are certainly not jealous because other people are getting money in return.<BR><BR>We still however are going to the Caribbean ANYWAY.<BR><BR>Now quit being obnoxious PEOPLE!!
