Taps played in DC at 11:00 pm?
I am in the middle of an extended stay in the Rosslyn/Arlington area and every night we hear what I think is Taps being played. Where is this coming from?
|
Taps is played at about 15 military funerals a day at Arlington Cemetary, but 11 pm is a little late for that. I an not aware of Tapes being played at Arleington Cemetary that late at night, but it is a possibility.

oops, Taps, not Tapes, sorry
|
they wouldn't be rehearsing for Ford's funeral, would they be?
|
There is a good possibility they are playing the daily Bugle Calls in Arlington National Cemetery and nearby Fort Myer. The reason you are hearing Taps only is all's quiet in the evening when Taps is sounded at 11PM.

I am sure RedRock is right. Fort Myer (which some people mistake for just a collection of apartment buildings adjoining the Cemetery)is actually a surprisingly large installation and within walking distance of Rosslyn hotels (as I learned when staying in one with a friend whose son was stationed at the Fort.)

Thanks for the info. I agree that it's heard because of the noise dying down. We also hear it at 10:00 sometimes - but we're not always paying attention or our patio door is shut (we usually keep it open for our cats to go in and out).

Bugle calls are sounded all during the day.
